Landslide while clearing mountain, road to La Lay border gate paralyzed for hours

On the afternoon of July 8, the Traffic Safety Committee of Quang Tri province said that while the construction unit was leveling the mountain to widen the curve on National Highway 15D, a serious landslide suddenly occurred, causing rocks and soil to flow down, causing a long traffic jam on the road to La Lay international border gate.

The incident occurred at Km8+900, one of 11 points under construction for expansion, causing the entire route to be blocked. Immediately after the incident, authorities quickly deployed machinery, blocked the scene and made efforts to fix the problem. However, the rugged terrain and the risk of continued landslides are making the construction work difficult.

Landslide at construction site causes complete traffic jam.

National Highway 15D is a strategic route, connecting Dakrong and A Luoi regions, Thua Thien Hue via the Eastern branch of Ho Chi Minh Road, to La Lay International Border Gate, thereby connecting with Laos and the countries of the Mekong sub-region. However, over the years, this route has had dozens of traffic black spots due to the narrow road surface, small turning radius, and many sections almost hanging on the cliff.
