During the holidays, retail prices of durian in Ho Chi Minh City varied greatly at many points of sale. At sidewalk sales points, whole durians were commonly priced from 60,000 to 70,000 VND/kg; in supermarkets, they were priced from 90,000 to 115,000 VND/kg.

Even at the supermarket, the price of durian in the West is also very different.
For example, at Co.opMart Rach Mieu (Phu Nhuan district), the price of Ri 6 Huynh Lam durian is 115,000 VND/kg (original price 139,000 VND/kg) while the same durian, without a brand name but only stating the origin as Tien Giang , Ben Tre, is 73,500 VND/kg (original price 108,000 VND/kg).
At Kingfoodmart supermarket, durian price is 90,000 VND/kg but the size is smaller.

At a fruit shop in an alley on Truong Sa Street (Binh Thanh District), Ri 6 durian is now 60,000 VND/kg, down 30,000 VND/kg compared to nearly a month ago. The shop owner continuously recommends that customers should buy it because durian is at a rare low price.
While domestic retail durian is not clearly classified, most of the points of sale claim to be delicious durian, "guaranteed to eat", exported durian has clear standards.
On May 1, export purchasing warehouses announced that Ri 6 durian type A is 53,000 VND/kg, type B is 33,000 VND/kg; types C and D are from 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that durian exports to China have slowed down due to long customs clearance times. Some businesses reported that it took a whole week to complete a shipment, while previously the goods would have gone very quickly.
Regarding the fact that domestic durian retail prices are "chaotic" and quite high compared to prices from orchards, Mr. Muoi said that durian is a difficult fruit, with a high loss and damage rate, which increases costs. In addition, depending on the quality, durian prices in each place are also different.
China reduces purchases by 78%
According to statistics, durian exports in the first quarter of 2025 decreased by 61%, to 98 million USD. The Chinese market still holds the number 1 position, with a value of 49.6 million USD, down 78%. Currently, durian is in full harvest, but difficulties still lie ahead as the speed of customs clearance of goods is still very slow.
