Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will step down on May 15th and has nominated Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong as his successor. This information was released by the Singapore Prime Minister's Office on April 15th.
According to the announcement, 72-year-old Lee Hsien Loong will officially nominate Wong as his successor to the President of Singapore. Wong is currently the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Singapore. The announcement stated that Wong has received the full support of MPs in the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and will take office on May 15th.
Immediately following the announcement from the Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Wong also confirmed that he would succeed Mr. Lee Hsien Loong and work with the utmost sense of responsibility.
