World number one Jannik Sinner continued his impressive form by defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Rome Masters, securing his place in the semifinals and setting a new record in the ATP Masters 1000 series.
Against Rublev, Sinner started dominantly, breaking Rublev's serve early in the first game of the first set, before securing another break in game 7 to win quickly 6-2 after 38 minutes.

In the second set, the world number one continued to dominate the match with two breaks in games 1 and 5. Although Rublev managed to break back once at the end of the set, Sinner still closed out the match after 1 hour and 32 minutes with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
This victory late on May 14th also helped the Italian star extend his winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments to 32 matches, surpassing the record of 31 consecutive wins previously set by Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Sinner's impressive run began at the Paris Masters late last year. Since then, the 24-year-old has consecutively won major tournaments such as Indian Wells, Miami Open, Monte Carlo Masters, and Madrid Open.
He also became the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete a "Sunshine Double," winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season.
Remarkably, Sinner only lost two sets in this 32-match winning streak. Prior to that, he also achieved a record of winning 37 consecutive sets from the Paris Masters to the Miami Open, demonstrating exceptional consistency.
At this year's Rome Masters, Sinner is aiming for his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title. If he wins in the Italian capital, he will become only the second player in history, after Djokovic, to complete the "Career Golden Masters" by winning all nine Masters 1000 tournaments since the series was established in 1990.
Furthermore, Sinner also has the opportunity to become the first Italian men's singles champion in Rome since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
