Sharing on the sidelines of the workshop "Communication of the food industry in Ho Chi Minh City: Identifying the crisis and solutions for sustainable development" on the morning of June 4, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City - said that the images circulating recently related to CP pork were haunting and confusing, and she personally felt indignant when watching them.
However, she recommends that consumers keep a "cool head" and not rush to turn their backs on businesses without an official conclusion.
"Don't let emotions lead you or make extreme judgments. Every event needs to be viewed in its entirety," she said.
According to Ms. Phong Lan, the Joint Stock Company has always been one of the enterprises fully participating in the safe food chain of Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time seriously implementing the project of tracing the origin of pork.
The entire production process - from breeding, slaughtering, packaging to labeling and distributing products - is carried out by the enterprise in a closed, modern system with clear traceability.
All batches of pork entering the market must undergo quarantine and be closely monitored by authorities in Ho Chi Minh City.
"We are focusing on further checking the actual operation, testing and quarantine processes of the business. If any violations are detected, we will definitely handle them strictly.
Currently, according to initial review and inspection, most CP pork products in Ho Chi Minh City meet the requirements of traceability and full quarantine before being circulated on the market," Ms. Lan emphasized.
"The most important thing is to determine whether the product in circulation today is safe for food, and cannot be assessed based on past images. The actual incident happened in 2022, nearly three years ago, which is very difficult."
Ms. Phong Lan also noted: "Consumers should not be too negative because more than anyone else, businesses themselves understand that brand is the most valuable asset, once reputation is lost it will be very difficult to recover."
Ho Chi Minh City food industry is facing a crisis of confidence.
The workshop "Communication in the food industry in Ho Chi Minh City: Identifying the crisis and solutions for sustainable development" was organized by Saigon Entrepreneur magazine , Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association (FFA), Ho Chi Minh City Advertising Association (HAA) and partners in the context of the food industry being heavily impacted by false information, dishonest advertising, widespread counterfeit goods and the erosion of consumer trust.
Nearly 200 delegates, including leaders of Ho Chi Minh City departments and agencies, experts and F&B businesses, attended, looking back at the current state of food industry communications, identifying the causes of the crisis and proposing solutions to restore trust, towards sustainable development.
