Children with hand, foot and mouth disease are treated at Vinh Long Provincial General Hospital. |
From the beginning of the year to May 5, the whole province recorded nearly 300 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. Of which, Long Ho district is the locality with the highest number of cases, with 45 cases; Binh Tan district has the lowest number of cases, with 26 cases.
According to medical facilities, the hospitalizations are mainly grade 2A and some grade 2B. The disease will be dangerous if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Currently, treatment facilities in the province ensure medicine and medical supplies to treat cases of the disease.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease that mainly affects children under 5 years old. Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent the disease or specific treatment. The Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health) warns that the number of cases will increase in the coming months.
The provincial health sector recommends that children should be given more nutrition, increase their resistance, improve personal hygiene, clean their nose and throat, and wash their hands regularly with soap and antiseptic solutions. In addition, it is necessary to eat cooked food and drink boiled water; clean children's toys and utensils; do not let children come into contact with sick people; use clean toilets. Children suspected of being sick or infected must be isolated and not allowed to come into contact with healthy children. At the same time, monitor for signs of illness to promptly take children to medical facilities.
