At the final round of Miss Earth Vietnam 2025 held on the evening of June 28 in Hai Phong City, contestant Ngo Thi Tram Anh (born 2006, Hai Duong ) was crowned the highest position.

At the same time, on the evening of June 28, the final round of Miss Sea Vietnam Global 2025 was held in Quang Ninh. Nguyen Hoai Phuong Anh (born 2001, Ba Ria - Vung Tau ) was crowned Miss.

Thus, in just 2 days, Vietnam has 3 more beauty queens. If we count Miss Universe Vietnam 2025 held on June 21st with the highest position belonging to Nguyen Hoang Phuong Linh, in just 1 week, Vietnam has 4 more beauty queens.

The story "open your eyes and see the crowned beauty queen", "a beauty queen every day" makes many viewers debate.

On social media, netizens said that recently, many beauty pageants have been held, making it difficult for viewers to distinguish the names and beauty of the beauty queens. In each contest, the organizers also award runner-up and many other prizes to the contestants, creating a situation of "oversupply of beauties".

This is not the first time the audience has argued about the situation of "going out and meeting beauty queens" or "having two beauty queens in one night" in Vietnam.

In October 2022, Miss Sea and Island Vietnam and Miss Globe Vietnam took place on the same day, creating a lot of controversy.

In August 2024, two contests, Miss Grand Vietnam and Miss Tourism Vietnam, will take place on the same day, creating 2 beauty queens and 6 runners-up at the same time.

In September 2024, within just 1 week, Vietnam had 2 more beauty queens named Ky Duyen, namely Vo Cao Ky Duyen (Miss Vietnam Global Tourism 2024) and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen (Miss Universe Vietnam 2024).

Audiences believe that many beauty contests are taking place everywhere, but the quality of the organization and the number of contestants are still questionable.

The Miss Earth Vietnam 2025 pageant was criticized for its unprofessional organization, being as chaotic as a "fair", and the beauty queens' behavior "reciting their lesson". The Miss Sea Vietnam Global 2025 pageant did not leave an impression, while Miss Vietnam 2024 also received some mixed opinions about the filming and lighting.

In addition to opinions about the quality of the contests, the audience also discussed the value that the beauty queens brought after each final night. Many beauty queens were crowned in a short time, causing the value of the crown to decrease, and the beauty queens were likened to "mass production".

Units "race before merger"?

The fact that in just 1 week, there were 4 beauty pageants holding finals in Vietnam made some viewers speculate whether this was a "race" before July 1st or not?

According to the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025 approved by the National Assembly on the morning of June 12, the country currently has 34 provincial-level administrative units, including 28 provinces and 6 cities. All new organizations, agencies, and units at provincial, commune, ward, and special zone levels will officially come into operation nationwide from July 1.

An audience member analyzed that currently, according to Clause 2, Article 16 of Decree 144/2020/ND-CP, the competent State agency to grant licenses to organize beauty contests is the People's Committee of the province where the contest is held.

"Therefore, for competitions that have been licensed by local authorities, they need to be organized before June 30 because from July 1, the new provincial and municipal apparatus will be put into operation.

If it is delayed past July 1, the organizers may have to reapply for a new license. In addition, changing the name of the province or city will also cause the organizers to change and edit the candidate profiles, and the information on the sash (the sash worn by beauty pageant contestants) will change," the audience hypothesized.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter , Mr. Tran Viet Bao Hoang - Executive Director of Miss Cosmo organization, Head of Miss Cosmo Vietnam Organizing Committee (Miss Universe Vietnam) - said that for the Miss Universe Vietnam 2025 contest, the production unit has a roadmap to prepare and start recruiting from the end of 2024.

"We are organizing it at this time because it is suitable for the domestic and international competition schedule, and it is not required to take place before any time frame," said Mr. Bao Hoang.

Sharing the same view, journalist and expert Ngo Ba Luc - a member of the jury of Miss Earth Vietnam 2025 - also said that the recent occurrence of many beauty pageants taking place at the same time is a coincidence because each beauty pageant has a preparation period lasting several months to a year.

However, some viewers are also wondering about the urgent schedule of Miss Earth Vietnam 2025. Specifically, this contest held a press conference to kick off on May 7, then started the preliminary round in Hanoi on May 15 and Ho Chi Minh City on May 20. From the start to the final, the contest lasted just over 1 month.

Beauty pageant boom: When economic profit dominates

After Decree 144/2020/ND-CP (effective from 2021) on performing arts activities, Vietnam began to see an explosion in the number of beauty pageants.

Previously, only two national beauty contests were licensed to be held each year. Later, organizations and businesses that wanted to hold beauty contests did not need to apply for a license from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, but only needed to ask for permission from the local authorities.

Besides opinions about the public being overwhelmed by the number of beauty queens and runners-up born every year, there are still perspectives that say this is a natural thing in the development wave of the entertainment industry.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Pham Thanh Trung - CEO of Global E&M Company Limited, the unit holding the copyright of Miss Global Vietnam - explained that beauty contests today are investment and business activities. As long as they continue to generate profits, units and businesses will continue to organize them.

"Sponsors spend money on competitions, which is also a marketing promotion activity through entertainment and culture. Organizing a beauty pageant is like holding a music show, both are entertainment products that can generate revenue.

More broadly, many beauty pageants contribute to the economy, create jobs for workers, and impact many other industries such as construction, media, transportation, advertising, accommodation and food services...

For example, talking about tourism development, Miss Cosmo Vietnam (Miss Universe Vietnam - PV) 2025 promotes Nha Trang tourism, Miss Vietnam 2024 promotes Hue tourism, Miss Vietnam Global Sea 2025 promotes Ngoc Sea tourist area in Ha Long, Quang Ninh. And Miss Earth Vietnam 2025 promotes Hai Phong tourism...", Mr. Pham Thanh Trung expressed his opinion.

According to Mr. Pham Thanh Trung, being crowned Miss is just the beginning, a favorable stepping stone, but not everything. Each Miss needs to be responsible for maintaining her image, accompanying the management unit and implementing different plans depending on her potential to reach the public, convey positive stories, valuable to the community and position herself among the many Misses today.

According to some experts in the industry, the licensing procedures for beauty pageants today are easy and convenient, but the long-term existence of such pageants still depends on the quality of the contestants and the organization process. Therefore, prestigious pageants will survive, while small, unknown pageants will quickly be eliminated.

In a previous interview with Dan Tri reporters , Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education - commented that performing arts activities in general and beauty contests in particular are experiencing certain chaos, stemming from many reasons, including the negative impact of the market economy.

"Organizing beauty contests but being dominated by economic interests will easily lead to event organizing companies wanting to have a grand contest, licensed by the highest level possible, on a national and international scale as possible, with the most attractive names possible, to attract the attention of many people and easily get sponsorship.

Professional factors are also important but are often placed in a secondary position. At that time, many beauty contests were not only meant to honor beauty, but also a profitable event. Therefore, we saw more beauty contests and also many scandals after those contests," Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son shared.
