Compete on a special chess board, cut and fold paper, color pictures and watch special art shows,... These are the activities at the summer opening program, responding to the Month of Action for Children 2023, organized by the Central Youth Union, the Central Council of Young Pioneers in coordination with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, taking place on the evening of May 28, at Nguyen Hue walking street, Ho Chi Minh City.
Ms. Loc Thi Bach was excited about the series of events in the city center: "Today, my husband and I took our child out for fun, for a change of scenery. I was very happy because June 1st was coming up, so I thought about what I should do to make my child happier and have more activities. Having activities like this is also fun, my child can learn a lot when he comes. Really, if there were more activities like this, it would be very good for my child, he can interact, learn a lot about cultural forms such as coloring, and have space for him to play. If every district had them, I would take him there every day."

At the program area, children can participate in many useful activities such as visiting painting and photo exhibitions, watching circus performances, street art; water puppetry, amateur music performances, experiencing Team Number activities, playing chess, and reading books at the mobile library.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang presented 10 mobile swimming pools and 10 playgrounds for children, worth 2 billion VND. The Central Youth Union, the Central Council of the Young Pioneers and the Steering Committee for Summer Activities in Ho Chi Minh City presented 1,400 gifts; 100 scholarships (2 million VND/scholarship) to children in difficult circumstances. In particular, the Central Youth Union, the Central Council of the Young Pioneers and the Vietnam Toilet Association presented 2 international standard public toilets worth 1.3 billion VND for people to use for free.
In addition, the Central Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers also provided sponsorship for the last 6 months of the year to children orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic in 29 provinces and cities, worth 9.3 billion VND; and presented works and gifts to children in 25 provinces and cities during the summer of 2023, worth 16.7 billion VND. The total value of the resources donated within the framework of the summer opening program, responding to the month of action for children is 27.4 billion VND.
Delegates perform the summer opening ceremony
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang presented 10 mobile swimming pools and 10 playgrounds for children, worth 2 billion VND, to the Central Council of the Young Pioneers.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and First Secretary of the Central Youth Union Bui Quang Huy presented symbolic plaques of projects and gifts for children in provinces and cities during the summer of 2023.
Also at the opening ceremony, there were many attractive performances from the children at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Cultural House. Little Pham Xuan Nghi, a child participating in the program's performance, shared: "The City Children's Cultural House guided me to this summer's opening program. This program is very fun, bustling and joyful. There are many kind brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts. I thank the teachers for guiding me to this program."
Mr. Bui Tuong Huan, the parent of another child who also performed music at the 2023 summer opening ceremony, said: "I also hope that children in other provinces will also participate in similar programs so that during the summer they can have music programs or cultural exchanges with each other. I think it is very meaningful for the children."
Anh Vien drove more than 30 km to a free swimming class to teach children.
Earlier on the morning of May 28, a free swimming class for children in Binh Chanh District (HCMC) opened, with the teacher being former swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien. 100 children attended the swimming class at Tan Tuc swimming pool, Binh Chanh District. The children were very excited and interested in the skills that teacher Anh Vien had instructed. This is part of the activities within the framework of the summer opening program and the Month of Action for Children in 2023, launched by the Central Council of the Young Pioneers in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, and the Binh Chanh District Summer Activities Steering Committee.
