On the evening of August 3, Son Heung Min played his last match for Tottenham in a friendly match against Newcastle in Korea. He played for 65 minutes before being substituted.
As he left the pitch, Son Heung Min was lined up in two rows by players from both Tottenham and Newcastle to pay his respects. In the stands, fans also chanted his name in unison. Despite joking around with the players on the pitch, Son Heung Min could not hide his emotions.
Tears streamed down his face and were captured by the camera. The 1992-born player's journey with Tottenham ended after 10 years.
Leaving the English team, Son Heung Min will almost certainly have a new destination. The club playing in the US Major League Soccer (MLS), LAFC, has contacted and reached an agreement to buy the Korean player.
It is worth noting that the amount that LAFC has to pay Tottenham for Son Heung Min's services could be around $27 million. If the deal is successful, he will become the most expensive player ever to join MLS. The current record belongs to Emmanuel Latte Lath when he joined Atlanta United earlier this year for $22 million.

Meanwhile, a current MLS star, Lionel Messi, cannot be named in the league's transfer record list. The reason comes from the Argentine star moving to Inter Miami in 2023 on a free transfer, after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.
A year before that, Gareth Bale also came to LAFC after his contract with Real Madrid ended.
Son Heung Min is still under contract with Tottenham until 2026. Therefore, LAFC is forced to pay the transfer fee to the London team. Son Heung Min's MLS transfer record, if set, will not be easily broken in the near future.
