On April 25, the Son La Provincial Historical Science Association organized a scientific workshop "Son La with the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Victory and some issues promoting the value of historical relics in the province", on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

The presentations at the conference comprehensively analyzed and deeply explained many aspects of the 1953-1954 Winter-Spring strategic offensive, as well as the contributions of the army and people of Son La to the Dien Bien Phu Victory. The presentations also assessed the current situation and proposed solutions to promote the value of some historical relics in the province.
In the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, Son La province played a very important role, being the direct rear of the front. The Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province, together with compatriots and soldiers nationwide, competed to contribute human and material resources to serve the campaign with the spirit of "All for the front, all for the Dien Bien Phu front".
Mr. Nguyen Duy Luong, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda Department of Son La Provincial Party Committee, informed: Son La is the central line of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign frontline; the gateway to the Northwest, with a vital road connecting the Northern Delta, the Viet Bac resistance base, Zone 3, Zone 4 with the Dien Bien Phu battlefield... so it shouldered a very important historical mission. Therefore, the political tasks required to serve the campaign for Son La province were very urgent, drastic, and focused, such as the task of contributing to ensuring traffic on Route 13 to Co Noi Intersection and Route 41 (now National Highway 6) from Suoi Rut to Pha Din Pass; protecting the forward warehouses, Ta Khoa Ferry, mobilizing food and provisions; maintaining security and order in the area...
“After 56 days and nights of extremely arduous, fierce and heroic fighting, on May 7, 1954, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was completely victorious, ending our people's resistance war against the French colonialists. Son La province successfully completed its mission as the direct rear base of the strategic decisive battle campaign, contributing to the victory of "Dien Bien Phu resounding throughout the five continents, shaking the world". Regarding food and foodstuffs, Son La province contributed 3,607 tons of rice (exceeding the target by 52 tons), over 144 tons of meat of all kinds (exceeding the target by 84 tons); and 140 tons of vegetables of all kinds. Along with that, the people of all ethnic groups in Son La enthusiastically participated in 21,687 laborers and 2,434,000 working days to contribute to the campaign to build roads and ensure transportation. Regarding means of transportation, there were 83 boats and 872 pack horses; at the same time, together with laborers from other provinces, transporting "4,450,000 tons of goods were sent to the front line," emphasized the Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda Department of Son La Provincial Party Committee.

Places in Son La located on the vital logistics route to the Dien Bien Phu battlefield such as: Lung Lo Pass, Ban Nhot Forest, Ta Khoa Ferry, Chen Pass, Co Noi Junction, Na San, Pha Din Pass have gone down in history.
