Recently on a travel forum for foreign visitors, Mr. Kiat Liang, a tourist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shared his experience eating at a restaurant in Hanoi.

Mr. Liang said he ordered a meal consisting of a portion of white rice, 2 sausages, and a few pieces of braised pork. The total bill was 150,000 VND. The Malaysian customer did not know whether this price was expensive or cheap, so he posted the picture on social media to get people's opinions.

The photo quickly received many heated comments from the online community with many conflicting opinions. Most of the comments said that this price cannot be called a normal meal and is more expensive than the general price.

An account named Ruth Maloney said that with experience living in Vietnam for a while, he has a habit of asking the price before buying food and drinks to avoid being overcharged.

Meanwhile, Marco Chen said: "If the meal in the picture is true, the price is quite expensive. However, this is a restaurant in Hanoi's Old Quarter where the price is higher than other areas, so sometimes tourists still have to accept it."

In addition to feedback from foreign customers, some Vietnamese accounts also share addresses of affordable restaurants in Hanoi's Old Quarter for diners to choose from.

According to research, the restaurant where the Malaysian guest dined is located on Ma May Street, Hang Buom Ward, Hoan Kiem District.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Ms. L, the owner of the restaurant confirmed that the above photo was taken at the restaurant. However, Ms. L. wanted the customer to share more photos of the meal bill to confirm whether the price of 150,000 VND is correct or not.

According to the restaurant owner, the dishes in the image of the rice plate will cost 130,000 VND. Of which, 2 pieces of Ha Long hand-pounded squid rolls cost 60,000 VND, braised pork belly costs 50,000 VND and white rice costs 20,000 VND.

The shop started business in 1996 with home-cooked dishes with many traditional dishes of the Northern people such as braised pork, grilled pork rolls wrapped in betel leaves, sweet and sour ribs, crispy roasted pork skin...

For a long time, the restaurant has become a destination that attracts foreign tourists and is visited and shared by many food bloggers. However, the prices of the dishes here are higher than the average. Explaining this, Ms. L. said that the ingredients are carefully selected and seasoned according to the taste of the old Hanoians.

It is known that the restaurant's meal costs from 100,000 VND to 150,000 VND. The price of the dish will vary depending on the type of meal chosen by the customer, from 150,000 VND/person or more.

"The shop welcomes a large number of regular customers, both international and Vietnamese. We have never received any complaints from customers about the high prices," Ms. L. confided.
