Sputnik on April 17 quoted CEO of SpaceX (USA) Elon Musk as believing that his pioneering space vehicle will be able to take humans to Mars.

Named "Starship", this spacecraft made its first orbital flight from Boca Chica, Texas, USA.

Starship uses a Super Heavy Booster 7 rocket, which includes 33 Raptor engines.

Notably, Starship is fully reusable and can be refueled while in orbit.

In 2020, billionaire Musk shared the idea of building 1,000 Starship spacecraft within 10 years and plans to send 1 million people to Mars by 2050.

The Tesla electric car company boss said SpaceX will set a ticket price for a future trip to Mars that is relatively affordable for most people, assuming it is $100,000.

Meanwhile, scientist John K. Strickland from the US National Space Society said that a community of about 5,000 people eating only plants could be maintained by a farm of about 900,000 square meters - spread over 4 floors, with materials and seeds brought to Mars by Starship.

Mr Strickland said that to achieve Mr Musk’s goal, it would take about 5,000 Starship trips, each carrying 200 tonnes of cargo, before food production on Mars could begin. These shipments could be sent before human missions to Mars in the 2030s.
