Frost and snow appear in the highlands of Lao Cai

From the night of November 25 to the early morning of November 26, the cold air intensified, causing the temperature in the highland border area of ​​Y Ty commune, Lao Cai province and neighboring communes to drop below 0 degrees Celsius, causing freezing cold and the appearance of frost and snow.

In particular, in the center of Y Ty commune, early this morning, snow and ice covered the mountains, forests, fields and villages of the Ha Nhi people. Mr. Phu Chuy Tho, owner of Homestay " Kham Pha Y Ty", Mo Phu Chai village, said that in areas with altitudes from 1,800m to 2,000m, frost and a thin layer of frost appeared from the early morning of November 26. For high mountain peaks such as Ky Quan San, Nhiu Co San (Den Sang commune) at altitudes of 2,800m or higher, frost appeared densely and covered the area in white.

Along with Y Ty, in recent days, snow and frost have appeared in high mountainous areas such as Fansipan peak (Ta Van commune) and other localities in the province, causing significant impacts on people's lives and agricultural production.

To proactively prevent cold for crops, hunger and cold for livestock and aquatic products in the province, and minimize damage to agricultural production caused by severe cold, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has requested localities and functional agencies to closely monitor weather developments, increase staff to closely monitor the grassroots, especially in mountainous areas, and effectively carry out propaganda, guidance, inspection and supervision of cold prevention for crops; proactively prepare adequate seeds, materials, fertilizers and plant according to the crop schedule, increase the use of short-term varieties, varieties that can withstand cold and are resistant to pests and diseases.

In particular, households that graze cattle in the forest must, by November 2025, complete the movement of cattle to graze and confine them in barns or to sheltered places with adequate conditions to ensure that the cattle avoid the cold. In case of moving cattle to other localities to avoid the cold, they must have a vaccination certificate from the People's Committee of the commune where they are moving from; make a declaration to the local authorities of the destination to manage epidemics; build temporary shelters to keep the cattle warm; periodically disinfect and sterilize the cattle confinement area; regularly collect manure and garbage to ensure environmental hygiene...
