Japanese automaker Suzuki has officially started the assembly line of its first electric car model, the e Vitara, at its Gujarat factory (India). It is expected that this model will be exported to more than 100 countries, including Malaysia, Japan and possibly Vietnam in the near future.

Despite its similar name, the Suzuki e Vitara has little in common with the petrol-powered Vitara SUV. In fact, it is a production version of the eVX Concept, built on the Heartect-e electric vehicle platform.

In the Indian market, the e Vitara is equipped with an all-LED lighting system, from the headlights, taillights to the fog lights and daytime running lights. The 18-inch alloy wheels have a closed design.

Suzuki e Vitara has overall dimensions of length x width x height of 4,275 x 1,800 x 1,635 mm and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The car is positioned in the B+ SUV/CUV segment like the Toyota Corolla Cross.

The interior is minimalist but more modern than Suzuki's traditional product lines. The highlight is the dual-screen cluster, including a 10.1-inch digital dashboard combined with a 10.25-inch central screen, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

In terms of amenities, the car uses a push-button gear lever, 10-way power driver's seat, integrated cooling for the front seats. There is also an electronic handbrake with automatic brake hold, single-zone automatic air conditioning and wireless phone charging.

The Suzuki e Vitara in India has three engine configuration options. The standard version uses an electric motor located on the front axle, producing 142 horsepower and a maximum torque of 189 Nm, with a 49 kWh battery pack.

The second option also uses a front-wheel-drive electric motor but is tuned to be more powerful, reaching 172 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque, combined with a 61 kWh battery pack. The most advanced is the four-wheel-drive variant with two electric motors placed on both axles, for a total capacity of 181 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, using a 61 kWh battery.

Suzuki has not yet released full range specifications for each configuration. However, the company said the larger battery version can achieve a range of about 500 km per charge. However, the specific test cycle has not been disclosed.

According to the plan, Suzuki e Vitara will officially launch in the Thai market at the end of this year, before being brought to Malaysia. The car is imported completely from India. At the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show, this model was also introduced, but the company has not announced plans to open sales in the "country of thousands of islands".
