Seven years after the current generation was launched in 2018, the Suzuki Jimny still maintains its enduring appeal among off-road enthusiasts. Suzuki has chosen to go slow and steady: keeping the design spirit and characteristic performance intact, while adding some important tweaks related to safety technology and entertainment systems, especially for the three-door version. The most notable upgrade is that the three-door Jimny finally catches up with the five-door in terms of safety equipment. Dual Sensor Brake Support II autonomous emergency braking is added, along with modern features such as lane departure warning, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition and cyber security measures to meet increasingly stringent standards.
In addition, the 2026 Suzuki Jimny versions using automatic transmission are also equipped with adaptive cruise control and reverse anti-start function - features that only appeared on the Nomade version. The 2026 Jimny's appearance has not changed, but it is not disappointing. The square, sturdy, off-road design language continues to be the highlight of this model. The interior also features a few subtle upgrades that enhance the user experience without losing the Jimny’s raw character. The traditional instrument cluster now features a 4.2-inch multi-information display in the center, providing convenience while still maintaining the classic analog style. Users can also choose a 9-inch central entertainment screen borrowed from the Swift model, which enhances connectivity and provides sharper display. However, in the standard versions, Suzuki still retains the thick plastic center console - a characteristic detail of a true off-road SUV. In terms of operation, the 2026 Jimny has no changes in the engine. The Jimny kei car version continues to use a 658cc turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 63 horsepower, while the Jimny Sierra version uses a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, producing 103 horsepower. Both versions come with part-time four-wheel drive, a sturdy body-on-frame chassis, and the option of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission – the simple but effective formula that has made the Jimny famous over the years.
In the Japanese market, the 2026 Jimny has started taking orders with prices ranging from 1.92 to 2.16 million yen (about 12,800 - 14,400 USD) for the kei car version, and from 2.27 to 2.39 million yen (15,200 - 15,900 USD) for the Jimny Sierra version. The price of the 2026 Suzuki Jimny is about $1,000 - $2,000 higher than before, but is still considered reasonable in the 4-wheel drive compact SUV segment. The 9-inch entertainment screen is sold as an option for about $860.
