Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Phan Thi Thu Ha said: "The visit of author Ono Eriko to Vietnam on the occasion of the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2024 is a good sign for promoting reading, affirming the role of Vietnamese publishing with foreign partners. Japanese publishers are known for having many strict requirements for foreign partners, especially in terms of copyright. Since joining the Berne Convention, Tre Publishing House has been the first unit to purchase copyrights for foreign books (the Harry Potter series), and has gradually won over international partners with its reputation, including Japanese partners."
On behalf of Tre Publishing House, Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Thanh Nam shared brief information about the author and works of Ono Eriko. "This is the author of a series of highlyeducational books. Each volume is a series of short stories from when Miko entered first grade, revolving around her own life and the relationships between school, family and society. Even now, Miko is in seventh grade, it still attracts young readers. The illustrations are beautiful, the characters are extremely cute and humorous... it is truly a great work about friendship and kindness, providing a lot of useful knowledge, both entertaining and highly educational."
' Miko the Little Girl' books published in Vietnam
'Miko - The Playful Girl' has been... 30 years old, is it still old?
It is known that the series of stories Little Miko – The playful girl revolves around the life and daily stories of the school girl Miko and her friends, in which we all see ourselves in the image of Miko, her friends, parents, teachers... Author Ono Eriko wrote this series for more than 30 years, from when she had no children, until she had 2 children and raised them to adulthood, she still worked hard to write.
Perhaps that is why the series closely follows very timely social issues, including things that parents want to share with their children but find difficult to talk about: teenage love, early puberty, LGBT, children in divorced families, single-parent families... In addition to the entertainment and relaxation elements, the comic series Little Miko - The Playful Girl can be considered a kind of "handbook" guiding girls and young women on how to behave civilly and openly on these issues.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam also revealed that this may be the only Japanese comic book that retains the traditional way of reading from left to right, so that children do not have to... read it backwards, which is very inconvenient.
Ms. Ono Eriko answered questions from TV reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.
Answering the first question at the exchange, Japanese bestselling manga author Ono Eriko shared her feelings when coming to Vietnam. "The weather is so hot and there are more motorbikes on the streets than I could have imagined. What's even more surprising is that the love that fans have for me and Little Miko is so great. I didn't expect the work to be so loved by readers," Ono Eriko confided.
Commenting on Vietnamese cuisine, the Japanese bestseller manga author boasted that last night, Director - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Phan Thi Thu Ha and Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Thanh Nam took her to dinner with delicious Vietnamese dishes. However, when a journalist asked how Vietnamese cuisine would appear in upcoming works with Little Miko , Ms. Ono Eriko thought for a moment and then hesitated: "I don't dare to promise in advance, but I will have a lot of affection for Vietnam in the future."
Many people are a bit worried about Ono Eriko, that it has been 30 years since she started writing about Miko, whether the stories are old and whether the author has run out of topics. But the author quickly resolved the issue: "What I write is all from the life that happens around my children every day, so there is nothing to worry about." Not to mention, after reading the work, readers sent many letters to "give advice", so everything is still fine.
On the occasion of this visit to Vietnam, author Ono Eriko drew a special picture of Miko wearing an ao dai with Ben Thanh market in the background. This picture was used as the cover of the 5-volume Miko selection boxset and gifts for readers.
In response, Ms. Phan Thi Thu Ha also introduced to Ms. Ono Eriko and her entourage the contest Little Miko and I organized by Tre Publishing House, which attracted 119 articles and 297 drawings from readers of many ages. In which, the contestants shared the companionship of the series with the ups and downs of their lives.
The meaningful artifacts were personally handed to Ms. Ono Eriko by Ms. Phan Thi Thu Ha - representative of Tre Publishing House.
Author Ono Eriko said she will keep these souvenirs with her, so that whenever she feels tired, she can take them out to look at, remember Vietnam and feel lighter.
Tre Publishing House sent Ms. Ono Eriko a special gift, which is a collection of 10 essays and 10 paintings that are about to be awarded (translated into Japanese), a set of Ao Dai with a Vietnamese lotus flower and a scarf with a picture of Ben Thanh Market (HCMC). These meaningful objects were given by Ms. Phan Thi Thu Ha to Ms. Ono Eriko, showing her hospitality and expressing her gratitude for the heart of the Japanese bestseller manga author for Vietnamese readers, including readers who are crazy about Little Miko of Tre Publishing House.
