Alarming increase in cardiovascular disease
At the conference "Line guidance and updating new advances in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases" held at the 19-8 Hospital of the Ministry of Public Security on September 10, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Thanh Tuyen - Director of the 19-8 Hospital said: In the past 10 years, the situation of cardiovascular diseases in Vietnam has had many remarkable changes.
In 2010, the prevalence of chronic cardiovascular disease in adults was approximately 4%, equivalent to approximately 3.4 million people.
By 2020, this number had increased to nearly 8%, equivalent to more than 7 million people, double that of a decade ago. This is an alarming increase, reflecting the rapid development of cardiovascular disease in the community.
Notably, the rate of people with high blood pressure, one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular disease, also increased from 16% to 26% during the same period.
Studies show that early detection and intervention can reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular events by up to 50%. Screening methods such as electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, coronary CT angiography, and percutaneous coronary angiography have proven to play an important role in detecting the disease at an early stage.
Focus on early screening for cardiovascular disease
Many advanced interventional techniques, including percutaneous arterial interventions such as coronary artery, carotid artery, and limb artery interventions, have been successfully implemented at Hospital 19-8. Endothermal interventional techniques to treat lower limb venous valve failure, RF ablation of arrhythmias, and permanent pacemaker implantation have helped improve the quality of life for cardiovascular patients.
In addition, the hospital initially performed aortic stent graft placement, a modern intervention method that effectively treats aortic aneurysms.
"We have also applied the 3D mapping system in cardiac electrophysiology intervention, helping to diagnose and treat complex arrhythmias with high accuracy. This is a big step forward in improving the quality of treatment for patients with cardiovascular diseases" - Associate Professor Tuyen shared.
However, for early screening of cardiovascular diseases to be truly effective, we need to pay attention to the role of the grassroots health system, especially the grassroots police clinics. This is the place closest to the people, can perform screening, early diagnosis and timely treatment for patients with signs of cardiovascular diseases. Support and transfer of cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment techniques to the grassroots level is extremely necessary.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Thanh Tuyen, currently, the conditions for the grassroots medical facilities of the People's Public Security to access new techniques and update knowledge transferred from leading experts are very difficult. Today's seminar is extremely meaningful not only for the 19-8 Hospital, but also an opportunity for the People's Public Security medical staff to update new knowledge and techniques, exchange and learn from leading experts, and then apply them in daily treatment practices for officers and soldiers and serve the people.
