Strengthening recommendations for people to plant summer-autumn rice

(HG) - To ensure the area and output of the Summer-Autumn rice crop as planned, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) has requested provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to plant the Summer-Autumn rice crop after harvesting the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice crop. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is concerned that the price of rice in the Winter-Spring crop that has been harvested in the Mekong Delta is lower than the same period last year, so farmers will switch from rice to other crops, thereby reducing the rice cultivation area and leading to a decrease in output, thereby causing many difficulties for rice exporting enterprises and many other consequences.

Farmers in Hau Giang have been stepping up planting of summer-autumn rice according to the recommendations of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Following the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Hau Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment has developed a plan and is strengthening recommendations for people to plant Summer-Autumn rice in many fields in the province. Specifically, the whole province has sown more than 15,000 hectares (plan 73,000 hectares) of Summer-Autumn rice. The rice fields are mainly at the seedling stage, in Chau Thanh A district alone, more than 500 hectares are at the tillering stage. Regarding the situation of pests on Summer-Autumn rice at this time, the main pests are golden apple snails and rats, however, the infection rate is low, farmers are proactively taking precautions. Currently, in many rice fields in the province, after harvesting the Winter-Spring rice, people are urgently cleaning the fields to sow Summer-Autumn rice, so the rice area planted will increase sharply in the coming time.
