Regarding the booking situation on domestic routes of Vietnamese airlines during the Lunar New Year 2024 (as of January 12th), the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam ( Ministry of Transport ) stated that airlines have added flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to local airports and vice versa on routes with high booking rates after being allocated additional slots at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports.

In total, 472 additional flights were added, corresponding to an estimated increase of nearly 92,155 seats. However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam assesses that the number of bookings is still gradually increasing, therefore the booking rate remains high on some days leading up to the Lunar New Year and in the reverse direction after the holiday.

Specifically, on the outbound leg, from Ho Chi Minh City to local airports, some routes are seeing a gradual increase in booking rates, with the highest rates occurring in the days leading up to the Lunar New Year (from the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month to the 2nd day of the 1st lunar month).

Specifically for the Hanoi - Dien Bien route, the booking rate reached 94.4%, Hanoi - Pleiku (88.7%), Hanoi - Vinh (100%), Ho Chi Minh City - Buon Ma Thuot (90.7%), Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang (91.3%), Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong (95%), Ho Chi Minh City - Hue (nearly 93%), Ho Chi Minh City - Pleiku (91.4%), Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa (99.6%), Ho Chi Minh City - Chu Lai (99.7%), Ho Chi Minh City - Quang Ninh (98.9%), and Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh (98.8%).

On the return flights from local airports to Ho Chi Minh City , routes with increasing booking rates are particularly high in the days following the Lunar New Year (from the 4th to the 10th day of the Lunar New Year), such as Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City (96.9%), Dien Bien - Hanoi (99.5%), Hai Phong - Ho Chi Minh City (99.5%), Hue - Ho Chi Minh City (94.7%), Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City (91.7%), Pleiku - Ho Chi Minh City (95.7%), Quy Nhon - Ho Chi Minh City (94.6%), Chu Lai - Ho Chi Minh City (112.8%), and Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City (99.2%).

Notably, many return flights from local airports were completely sold out, with demand even exceeding the number of available seats. For example, the Ca Mau - Ho Chi Minh City route had a 100% booking rate, Nha Trang - Hanoi (99.5%), Phu Quoc - Hanoi (100%), Pleiku - Hanoi (101.7%), Thanh Hoa - Ho Chi Minh City (101.6%), etc.

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and request airlines to balance and add more capacity on flights during the Lunar New Year 2024 period.

On major routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang, and Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, occupancy rates are gradually increasing during the peak Tet holiday period; however, tickets remain abundant, with an average booking rate of 45%, a 5-7% increase compared to the previous week.
