Outstanding in the "shock" activities to protect the environment (BVMT) is the movement "Yen Bai Women with a green - clean - beautiful environment" which has created a big echo, with more than 3,000 models of waste collection and treatment built across the province, far exceeding the original target. Not only that, the Association also mobilized the construction of hundreds of "Women's self-managed green - clean - beautiful" roads, planted dozens of hectares of new forests and hundreds of flower roads, contributing to changing the face of the countryside.
Along with that, many businesses have proactively transformed and applied cleaner production solutions. In 2024, the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment recognized 6 "Green Enterprise" models and 1 "Green School" model, based on 8 strict criteria on compliance with environmental laws, effective waste treatment, energy saving and waste reuse.
Typically, Hai Ha Clean Seafood Processing Company Limited in Yen Binh District has invested in technology to process fish by-products into animal feed, solving pollution and saving costs. In the forestry sector, the province encourages the planting of large timber forests, attracting enterprises to invest in high technology in deep processing, increasing value and reducing exploitation pressure. Typical green investment projects such as Yen Bai 1 Biomass Power Plant (118 million USD) or the Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Project (Kfw8) are also evidence of efforts to green production.
In addition, about 150 small and medium enterprises and cooperatives have benefited from funding packages related to clean growth and renewable energy. In many localities such as Van Yen district, closely following the direction of the province's philosophy, the district has outlined specific targets for 2025 on income, life expectancy, forest cover, cultural standards and a Happiness Index of 70%.
Mr. Ha Duc Anh - Secretary of Van Yen District Party Committee emphasized: "The locality always determines that economic development must be associated with environmental protection, agricultural development according to the value chain, especially cinnamon, OCOP products and new rural construction. On that basis, the district strives to expand the area to about 60,000 hectares, of which organic cinnamon is developed on over 10,730 hectares, building the Van Yen cinnamon brand... These efforts have brought in annual revenue of over 1,000 billion VND from cinnamon trees".
To realize the green development goal, Yen Bai has developed and issued a comprehensive system of resolutions, strategies, and action plans. The province clearly identifies priorities for attracting high-tech, environmentally friendly projects; integrating the improvement of the Provincial Green Index (PGI) into the action plan to promote investment attraction in the green economy, digital economy, and circular economy.
The province is also studying and issuing mechanisms to encourage businesses and individuals to implement green production and business. In particular, Yen Bai is gradually approaching and encouraging circular economic models in agriculture and forestry, utilizing agricultural by-products to create new added value and reduce waste.
In addition to the achievements, the province also frankly acknowledged the significant challenges. Investment resources for large-scale environmental protection and infrastructure projects are still limited, while the policy to attract green investment is not strong enough; many small and medium-sized enterprises face difficulties in accessing clean technology due to high costs and lack of information; awareness and capacity to enforce environmental laws among a part of the people, businesses and even management staff are sometimes uneven; technical infrastructure for environmental protection such as the collection and treatment system for solid waste and wastewater is still lacking in synchronization...
To overcome these challenges, Yen Bai is determined to continue to improve mechanisms and policies with stronger incentives for green investment and clean production. The province will prioritize budget resources, while promoting socialization and mobilizing non-state capital sources for green growth projects; encourage the application of science and technology, innovation in production and pollution treatment while investing in synchronous development of environmental protection infrastructure, especially the system of collecting and treating solid waste and centralized wastewater, which is an urgent task; support the replication of effective green economic and circular economic models, etc.
