On the morning of October 14 in Hanoi, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the Award Ceremony of the National Finals of the 2023 "Women starting a business, promoting indigenous resources" contest organized by the Vietnam Women's Union.

This is the 5th contest organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union within the framework of the Project "Supporting women to start a business in the period 2017 - 2025" approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 939/QD-TTg dated June 30, 2017.

Congratulating and praising the 33 projects participating in the 2023 national final round and the authors of the winning projects of the competition, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the Vietnam Women's Union for effectively implementing the Project to Support Women in Starting a Business, with many innovations and creativity, making important contributions to the start-up movement, the national gender equality goal and the rapid, comprehensive and sustainable development of the country.

The Prime Minister affirmed that in recent times, the Party and State have always paid special attention to, and have effectively issued and implemented many policies, mechanisms and strategies to support and encourage startups and innovation, in which women - accounting for 50% of the population and nearly 48% of the country's workforce - have received special attention and created favorable conditions.

In particular, the Government has issued projects specifically for women, assigned to the Vietnam Women's Union to take the lead in implementing them, notably two Government projects: the Project "Supporting women to start businesses in the period 2017 - 2025" and the Project "Supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers by 2030".

Women's startup competitions with various topics have affirmed the dynamism and constant innovation of the Association to better meet the needs and aspirations of women of all classes, actively contributing to the implementation of the country's socio-economic development goals and promoting gender equality.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed: The Women's Entrepreneurship Competition is a large and extensive forum, arousing the potential, enthusiasm, intelligence, and daring spirit of Vietnamese women in their entrepreneurial journey, creating strong motivation for women nationwide to participate in diverse economic models such as enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, individual business households... to develop production, business, increase income, enrich themselves, their families and society.

Women's contributions through start-up activities have created new values and new motivations, not only contributing greatly to the country's economic development but also having positive impacts on solving social problems, contributing to socio-political stability, and improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

To successfully implement the objectives of the Project to Support Women in Starting a Business and strongly spread the start-up movement among women, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries, branches, localities and Women's Unions at all levels to implement a number of important contents.

Accordingly, ministries, branches, localities, enterprises and banks continue to research and perfect institutions, mechanisms and policies to create the most favorable environment and conditions for women to start businesses, especially mechanisms to support capital, legal advice, training to improve comprehensive capacity for women, connecting product consumption, promoting trade for women to start businesses...

Along with that, strongly develop the national startup and innovation ecosystem, paying attention to a separate ecosystem for women startups; form and effectively promote a network of experts, creative startup consultants, investors, domestic and international investment funds to support women's startup ideas/projects.

To promote the women's start-up movement, the Prime Minister emphasized 5 important contents. These are: Linking the start-up movement with innovation to create value, new products, new motivation for the community and society; linking with research, application of science and technology, building brands and protecting intellectual property rights; linking with regional and local planning; start-ups must be supported by businesses and banks in terms of market and capital; receiving attention, support, assistance, encouragement and facilitation from Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and people's organizations.

The Prime Minister noted that it is necessary to thoroughly implement the principle of "3 no's" - do not say no, do not say difficult things, do not say yes but do not do. If you promise, do it, if you commit, do it. Regarding the Vietnam Women's Union, the Prime Minister requested to further strengthen effective and practical activities to support women in starting a business; focus on organizing movements, forums, and activities to commend and honor women to encourage, motivate, inspire, and spread the desire for starting a business and innovating among women of all walks of life.

At the same time, actively mobilize the participation, support and companionship of sectors, levels and components of society for the creative start-up movement of women nationwide. Women's Unions at all levels need to proactively and actively advise local Party committees and authorities in activities to support women's start-ups in particular and support economic development for women in general.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that the entrepreneurial enthusiasm of women with start-up projects today will spread widely, contributing to nurturing the passion, desire for creativity, innovation and dedication, and contribution among women of all walks of life. There will be more and more female entrepreneurs and women's cooperatives on the list of successful start-up projects in Vietnam, the region and the world, contributing to a Vietnam that develops rapidly and sustainably, comprehensively and inclusively, contributing to realizing the aspiration of building a strong, prosperous country, with a prosperous and happy people.

The Prime Minister also called on and requested corporations, general companies, enterprises, and banks to join hands and support women in starting businesses.

33 projects won the 2023 Women Entrepreneurship Award

The contest awarded 1 Special Prize (worth 120 million VND) to the high-tech application project on organic brown rice milk production by Hoang Thi Thuy Linh (Vinh Phuc). 3 First Prizes worth 60 million VND went to author Vuong Thi Thuong (Lang Son) for creating organic wind-dried rose hips; Bui Thi Kim Anh (Dak Lak) for a project from tea and coffee flowers to create jobs for workers and Truong Thi Bach Thuy (Soc Trang) for a bamboo and rattan weaving village project. In addition, the contest awarded 4 Second Prizes (35 million VND) along with 6 Third Prizes (25 million VND), 19 Encouragement Prizes (12 million VND).

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's competition received 2,024 projects, of which 53.8% were cooperative projects. After 3 rounds of competition, 33 projects were selected for the final round, the projects were honored to receive awards with a total prize value of more than 2.3 billion VND, along with certificates and logos.

After 5 years of implementation, there are now 80,000 business ideas, more than 70,000 women starting businesses and 60,000 businesses founded by women. In 2023, the competition targets projects to preserve, develop and enhance the value of local resources, exploit comparative advantages in terms of ecological conditions, culture, genetic resources, knowledge and technology of localities formed from localities. Outstanding initiatives in improving the production process of new products and services, with new business models using renewable energy sources, organic, clean, circular and environmentally friendly production, contributing to promoting identity and meeting commercial needs.
