The Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index project is a collaboration between the tourism platform Yanolja (Korea) and several research institutions. This is an assessment tool designed to measure the attractiveness of 191 global tourism cities (up to 12 cities in each country, excluding the US and China), based on social data analysis. This index measures the attractiveness of each city based on psychological and cognitive factors of tourists, which influence their decision to visit a particular city.
By applying unified assessment criteria to 191 cities, the index helps identify each city's unique strengths and relative positions. It can serve as a reference for cities when planning their tourism development strategies and global market positioning.
From an academic perspective, the development of the Global Cities Tourism Attractiveness Index will contribute to expanding the research field of travel behavior and destination evaluation. From a tourism industry perspective, the index brings practical value to marketing strategies, policy planning and business innovation.
