A fishing boat sank off the coast of Jeju Island; five Vietnamese crew members were rescued, but one South Korean crew member died and two are missing.
A South Korean fishing boat with 10 crew members sank at 7:24 a.m. (5:24 a.m. Hanoi time) this morning in waters more than 20 kilometers from Seogwipo city in southern Jeju Island, according to the South Korean coast guard. Eight crew members, including three South Koreans and five Vietnamese, were rescued by a nearby fishing boat. Two South Korean crew members are still missing.
A South Korean sailor was taken to a local hospital unconscious and later died. The remaining seven suffered from hypothermia and are receiving treatment. The cause of the fishing boat sinking and the identities of the victims are currently unknown.

The South Korean coast guard deployed two helicopters in coordination with patrol boats and fishing vessels to search for the two missing South Korean sailors within a 3.6-kilometer radius of the accident site.
The search effort is being hampered by rough seas. One rescuer was taken to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries from being swept away by waves while inspecting an overturned fishing vessel.
