On May 22, the Ha Long Bay Management Board decided to temporarily suspend the operation of the Thinh An 88 tourist boat (number QN-8618) because tourists brought and used disposable plastic bottles during the tour.
Over the past years, to protect the environment of Ha Long Bay heritage, authorities have mobilized thousands of people to go to the sea to clean up trash by manual methods.

Specifically, at 10:00 a.m. on May 20, at the Luon passenger pick-up point, authorities discovered that the Thinh An 88 passenger ship was using non-degradable plastic products.
This is an act that is contrary to the commitment in the contract for operations at ports, wharves and waters of Ha Long Bay - Bai Tu Long Bay, signed between Ha Long Bay Management Board and business household Bui Van Thuy (owner of Thinh An 88 ship).
Immediately after discovering the violation, the Ha Long Bay Management Board applied strong measures, suspending the anchoring contract and operations of the Thinh An 88 ship for 7 days, from May 24 to 30.
Also according to the Ha Long Bay Management Board, from September 1, 2019, the unit has implemented the program "No use of disposable plastic products" in all tourism and service activities on the bay.
Accordingly, organizations and individuals operating in this area must commit to completely eliminating the use of products such as cups, straws, boxes, bowls, plastic plates or plastic bags; and replacing them with environmentally friendly items.
The Ha Long Bay Management Board also requires transport units to refuse to serve passengers if they deliberately do not comply with this regulation.
