On the morning of April 2, the French Navy cruiser Prairial docked at Chua Ve port, beginning a courtesy visit to Hai Phong city from April 2 to 6.
The Prairial has a total of 99 officers, non-commissioned officers and crew members, commanded by Colonel Francois Maignan. The ship is 93.5m long, 14m wide, and has a displacement of 2,950 tons. This is the fourth time the Prairial has visited Vietnam.
The welcoming ceremony at the port took place on the morning of April 2, chaired by the leaders of the Hai Phong City Department of Foreign Affairs. Attending the welcoming ceremony were representatives of the Naval Region 1 Command, the Hai Phong City Military Command, the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command, etc. Colonel Frédéric Daumas, French Defense Attaché in Vietnam, also attended the welcoming ceremony.
During the visit, officers and crew of the Prairial will pay courtesy visits to leaders of the Hai Phong City People's Committee; the head of the Naval Region 1 Command. In addition, the French Navy ship will conduct joint exercises with ships of the Vietnam People's Navy; participate in friendly sports and cultural activities with officers and soldiers of the Vietnam Navy ; and visit historical and cultural sites in Hai Phong City.
In recent times, the defense cooperation between Vietnam and France has been increasingly strengthened and achieved positive results. The visit to Vietnam by the Prairial ship contributes to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two navies in particular, and the defense relations between Vietnam and France in general, making a practical contribution to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations (1973-2023) as well as the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries (2013-2023).
