On June 22, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang received a question from AFP News Agency. In which, the French news agency requested confirmation of the information that the US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan is about to visit Vietnam.
Answering this question, Ms. Hang said "the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan is expected to visit Da Nang from June 25 to 30."
"This is a normal friendly exchange activity, for peace , stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world," a representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Vietnam has recently welcomed many foreign naval ships to visit. The visit of the US aircraft carrier is also such an activity.
The US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan is currently operating in the East Sea. This is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and is the only forward-deployed aircraft carrier of the US Navy today.
Also at the press conference, Ms. Hang received a question from Phoenix Radio about the visit of the Japanese destroyer group.
Regarding this issue, a representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Japanese destroyer group is in Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa province. The visit will last from June 20 to 23.
"Just like other times welcoming foreign naval ships to visit Vietnam, this is a normal cooperation activity, contributing to peace and stability in the region," Ms. Hang affirmed.
As Tuoi Tre Online reported earlier, the helicopter destroyer JS Izumo and the destroyer JS Samidare docked at Cam Ranh port on June 20.
In the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, JS Izumo is the largest surface warship. Although called a destroyer, JS Izumo has the size and technical and tactical features of a helicopter carrier of other countries./.
