Tet: Connecting with Love

" MANAGING" STUDENTS' HEALTH AND SAFETY DURING THE TET HOLIDAY

Based on the fact that all classes have online groups for connecting and exchanging information, homeroom teachers and students at Tay Thanh High School (Tan Phu District) made an agreement during the Tet holiday break. Every day, during family activities, all members can take and send photos to the group to share and spread the word. Mr. Nguyen Quang Dat, Principal of Tay Thanh High School, said that the school encourages teachers and students to always stay connected, and that teachers or the school's responsibilities do not end once students return home for Tet.

Students at Chu Van An Continuing Education Center (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) can visit the school for recreation during the Tet holiday break.

"The sharing of photos of traditional Tet holiday activities with family by teachers and students is also a way for teachers to 'manage' the health and safety of the students. Such regular connection will help ensure that the atmosphere upon returning to school after a long Tet holiday doesn't leave students feeling lost, because they have been participating in daily activities in the classroom environment with their teachers and friends," Mr. Dat shared.

Similarly, an experiential activity called "Family during Tet" was launched among teachers and students at Duong Van Thi High School (Thu Duc City). This Tet activity encourages students to participate with their relatives in decorating the house, preparing family meals, or wishing their grandparents and parents a happy new year. During each of these traditional activities, students can take photos or record short videos capturing moments of family reunion and send them to the class group.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, the school principal, believes this is a way for students and teachers to share and connect with each other. Even when not in class, the children can exchange ideas and discuss with each other daily, ensuring that the emotional connection within the group is not interrupted. This nurturing will help teachers and students look forward to returning to school after the Tet holiday.

SCHOOLS WILL OPEN DURING TET HOLIDAY SO STUDENTS CAN HAVE FUN.

Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1) announced a Tet holiday break, but the school remains open to welcome students for reading, playing sports, and other activities. Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, the school's principal, stated that with the existing facilities, from February 5th to 18th, throughout the Tet holiday period, students can come to school daily to play football, basketball, volleyball, or read in the library.

The principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School said that the reason the school maintains an environment for students to play and participate in group activities stems from the reality that, apart from visiting and wishing relatives a happy New Year, most of the students' time off is spent on eating, sleeping, and some even playing games... Therefore, the school wants to create a dynamic space for students to engage in recreational activities and sports to release their energy.

Similarly, the administration of Ernst Thälmann High School (District 1) stated that during the Tet holiday, the school will remain open for students to play and participate in sports activities. The school library will also be open to students during the days leading up to and after Tet. Clubs and groups will continue to organize activities such as social gatherings, charitable work, donating banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) to the elderly and needy, giving Tet gifts to children at Children's Hospital 2, and visiting orphanages…

Stemming from the fact that many students at the Chu Van An Continuing Education Center (District 5) come from disadvantaged families, including children of self-employed workers, and whose relatives are busy earning a living during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the center always opens its gates to welcome them for activities, sports training, and group activities. "Those who love sports can play table tennis, badminton, or basketball; students who are passionate about photography or painting can come to the school and use the decorative displays in the center's grounds as props…," shared Mr. Do Minh Hoang, Director of the Chu Van An Continuing Education Center (District 5).

Mr. Do Minh Hoang said that the school always wants to share and hold hands with its students in every moment. Therefore, connecting with students is always a goal that schools strive for, especially during the joyful days of the Lunar New Year.

Granting scholarships fosters a spirit of striving for success.

"A Little Springtime Heartfelt Conversation" is a program of conversation and sharing organized by Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) during the Lunar New Year holiday. Accordingly, 66 students from disadvantaged backgrounds will receive scholarships ranging from 2 to 5 million VND per student, along with gifts of essential items for the holiday, totaling approximately 200 million VND. All the funding for this support comes from generous donations from teachers and parents.

In addition, during this year-end gathering, scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to meet teachers who experienced difficult childhoods but persevered to become teachers today. These teachers will share their stories to motivate students, encouraging them to be more optimistic and strive for success in life.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, the school principal, said that the space for heartfelt conversations will help students alleviate difficulties so they can have a joyful and heartwarming Tet holiday, creating happiness and warmth in the teacher-student relationship, and in the affection of parents for their children.

Ensuring student safety

This is the content that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has disseminated to thousands of schools during the Lunar New Year holiday.

According to Mr. Duong Tri Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, schools need to review the process of parents (or guardians) signing commitments with the school regarding not allowing students to ride motorcycles or scooters without a driver's license or before reaching the legally required age; and committing to ensuring students wear helmets when riding motorcycles, scooters, or electric two-wheeled vehicles.

Educational institutions are stepping up efforts to raise awareness and encourage their staff, teachers, employees, and students to strictly comply with traffic safety laws, obey traffic signals and instructions from law enforcement; be considerate and helpful to each other; proactively participate in safe traffic and adhere to regulations such as: not driving after drinking alcohol; not speeding or reckless overtaking; not carrying more passengers than permitted; wearing standard helmets when riding motorcycles, scooters, and electric bicycles; preventing accidents at railway crossings and inland waterways; and not using mobile phones while operating vehicles.

According to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the school is strengthening its efforts to educate its staff, teachers, and students on civilized behavior, maintaining social order, strictly adhering to regulations on the management and use of fireworks, refraining from social vices, and preventing violations related to fireworks and traffic safety; and improving skills in preventing and responding to accidents and injuries during the Tet holiday.

Furthermore, schools need to coordinate communication efforts regarding food safety during the Lunar New Year and other festive seasons among staff, teachers, and students. Specifically, they should avoid purchasing food from unsafe production and business establishments; and refrain from buying food products of unknown origin or those showing signs of spoilage, mold, or damage. They should also avoid buying and stockpiling excessive amounts of food during the holiday to prevent the consumption of products that are not fresh, have lost nutrients, or are moldy or spoiled. Effective implementation of hygiene and disease prevention activities, ensuring food safety, providing sufficient drinking water and clean water, and regularly cleaning the environment at educational institutions and schools are crucial. Furthermore, schools should organize awareness campaigns and educational programs to educate students, staff, and teachers about disease prevention and control measures.
