From the center of Dak Na commune (Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province), passing through terraced fields, winding stone streams, winding roads between vast pine forests and lush green lawns, visitors will hear the sound of rushing water.
That is the sound of water pouring from the majestic Siu Puong waterfall, located between the Ngoc Kal and Ngoc Pang mountain ranges, about 89km from Kon Tum city.
Located at an altitude of 1,600m above sea level, Siu Puong waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in Vietnam. The water of Siu Puong waterfall originates from the top of Ngoc Linh mountain.
The waterfall is about 240m long but does not pour down from the top like many other waterfalls in the Central Highlands. Instead, Siu Puong waterfall flows into 7 levels in a unique zigzag shape.
The highest level of the waterfall is at the top, 60m high. The next 4 levels are each about 40m high, the remaining 2 shorter levels are about 10m high.
Depending on the amount of water flowing, the waterfall surface has different widths and narrows each season of the year. During the rainy season, when the water is abundant, the waterfall can be up to 30m wide.
From afar, the waterfall looks like a soft, winding white silk strip standing out among the lush green of the mountains and forests.
Originating from high mountains, flowing through vast forests, Siu Puong waterfall water is clear and cool all year round. Below each waterfall is a beautiful, clear natural lake.
Not only possessing pristine and majestic beauty, Siu Puong waterfall is also considered a sacred place by the local Xơ Đăng people. The Xơ Đăng people here consider the water source from the waterfall as sacred water.
They use the water from the waterfall for daily activities. However, people absolutely must not do anything that is considered to pollute the water such as washing clothes, bathing directly at the source, or carrying the deceased across the water, etc.
Nowadays, Siu Puong waterfall attracts many tourists to explore and experience. The most ideal time to fully admire the perfect beauty of this waterfall is around October.
At this time, Siu Puong waterfall is supplemented with abundant water from upstream. The cool water of the waterfall becomes an ideal place for visitors to relax.
Here, visitors can enjoy the fresh air of nature, letting go of all the fatigue and pressure of life.
After exploring the highest waterfall in Vietnam, tourists can visit and experience life in Le Vang village, about 8km from Siu Puong waterfall. Seen from above, Le Vang village looks like a green oasis with countless fruit trees.
People here still preserve the gong team, typical customs and practices such as: New rice eating ceremony, water trough ceremony, weaving,...
