The STGs STAR program, or Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating, adapts the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into a more accessible framework for Thai businesses.
The system awards businesses 3, 4 or 5 stars as a way to certify quality that is easily recognizable to both domestic and international tourists.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, this initiative is not only about boosting the economy but also about improving community life and raising standards for tourism operators, helping Thailand become a world leader in sustainable tourism.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is also promoting other programs to support its green mission. For example, the CF-Hotels platform helps hotels and accommodations calculate their carbon footprint, while the prestigious Thailand Tourism Awards now include a special “Green Kinnaree” symbol for outstanding achievements in sustainability. Currently, in a pilot program, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has selected Krabi province as a model for sustainable tourism development./.
