Truong Quoc Dung (1797-1864) was born and raised in Phong Phu village, now Thach Khe commune (Thach Ha, Ha Tinh). He was famous as a child prodigy, passing the bachelor's exam at the age of 25 and the doctoral exam at the age of 29 in the year of Ky Suu (1829). After passing the doctoral exam, he was appointed as the District Chief of Tan Binh, Gia Dinh (1830), and the following year was promoted to Lang Trung of the Ministry of Justice. In 1834, he and his ministers Truong Minh Giang and Nguyen Xuan made great achievements when they led troops to repel the Siamese invaders from invading 6 southern border provinces. After the French invaded our country, he was appointed general many times by the court, leading troops to the North to win many battles. In June 1864, in a battle to sweep the enemy at sea at Quang Yen fort (Quang Ninh), our army was defeated, Truong Quoc Dung and his deputy general Nguyen Van Giai (Quynh Luu, Nghe An ) and 380 soldiers were killed. Truong Quoc Dung died on June 26, Giap Ty year (1864). After his death, King Tu Duc gave him the posthumous name Van Nghi, posthumously conferred the title of Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si and granted him silk and money to bring his coffin back to his hometown for burial. Not only did Truong Quoc Dung have great contributions to the country as a general, he was also a typical intellectual, a political reformer, an astronomer and a great historian. He left Vietnamese literature many valuable works of documents and research. These are: Truong Nhu Trung Thi Tap (Chinese characters) and Chinese prose works: Thoai Thuc Ky Van, Van Quy Tan The, Kham Dinh Viet Su Thong Giam Cuong Muc. The temple of Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si Truong Quoc Dung, currently located in Vinh Tien village (Thach Khe commune, Thach Ha), was built by the people after his death to commemorate the great contributions of the outstanding son of his homeland. Later, the temple was restored and embellished many times. In 2009, the temple and tomb of Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si Truong Quoc Dung were recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Currently, Truong Quoc Dung Temple has a total area of over 5,000 m2 , including many construction items such as: Entrance gate, 4 flower pillars (popularly called fang pillars), lake, upper hall, lower hall, family church... In which, the most prominent is the construction of 4 flower pillars with elaborate carvings and parallel sentences praising the merits of Dong Cac Dai Hoc Si and his shrine area.

The highlight in front of the Eastern Palace temple of Grand Scholar Truong Quoc Dung is the two elephants carved in lime and stone, showing the majesty and respect of the place of worship of the talented general who devoted himself to the country.
