In recent years, the work of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups in Than Uyen district in particular and Lai Chau province and the whole country in general has always received special attention from the Party and State, demonstrated through many programs, projects, and policies on investment and development in the cultural field.
Therefore, the work of preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identity of ethnic groups associated with tourism development has been seriously led and directed by the Party Committee and the government of Than Uyen district. The Standing Committee of the District Party Committee has issued 69 documents on leadership and direction on preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identity associated with community tourism development in the district. The dissemination, study and propaganda of Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW and resolutions, directives and conclusions of the Central Committee, Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee on preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identities of ethnic groups associated with tourism development in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, have been carried out seriously and promptly in diverse and rich forms suitable to the reality of the district, contributing to raising awareness and understanding of all levels, sectors, cadres, party members and people about the basic and core contents, key tasks and solutions on culture, creating unity in thought and action, determination to successfully implement the goals and tasks of economic development and building cultural life in the district.
Folk cultural activities are passed down in schools in Than Uyen.
With the participation of the entire political system, the work of preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural identities of ethnic groups associated with tourism development in the district has achieved some important results: Every year, the district has been maintaining the New Year program, 02 festivals: Xoe Chieng and Lung Tung Festival (going to the fields of Thai ethnic group in Muong Cang commune); organizing the restoration and maintenance of 04 festivals (Han Khuong festival of Thai black ethnic group in Muong Mit commune; Kin Pang of Thai black ethnic group in Ta Hua commune; New rice festival of Kho Mu ethnic group; Gau Tao festival of Mong ethnic group) and 02 fairs (Nam Pat market of Ta Mung commune and Ta Gia night market); maintaining and establishing 08 new Thai ethnic lute and Then singing clubs in communes; 01 commune-level Kho Mu folk song club; 01 Cultural and artistic club of the town; Restore and maintain 04 cultural spaces of Thai, Mong, Dao, Kho Mu ethnic groups at the district's Central Stadium; maintain 08 Campaign Committees for implementing new cultural lifestyles among Mong ethnic groups; establish 04 Campaign Groups for Preserving Cultural Identity of Thai, Mong, Dao, Kho Mu ethnic groups; continue to propagate the preservation and conservation of Mong ethnic cultural and folk identities in 21 Mong ethnic villages in the district...etc. Form cultural tourism products to serve the needs of tourists coming to visit and experience.
The preservation of ethnic cultural identity in schools has been promoted and integrated into educational activities for students in the district. 27 schools have built cultural spaces, and clubs to preserve and promote ethnic cultural identities such as embroidery, folk songs, dances, flute playing, bamboo dancing, and ethnic sports have been formed and maintained in schools. 131 villages and residential areas have established art troupes and regularly maintain and organize local cultural and artistic activities. Artistic activities at the October 15 walking street are maintained regularly by the district on weekends, attracting a large number of people and tourists from all over the country to participate in exchanges. Activities to celebrate Independence Day (September 2) and the Cultural and Sports Festival of ethnic groups have been maintained, attracting thousands of visitors from inside and outside the district. In particular, since 2024, with the attention of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Council and the Provincial People's Committee, the scale of organizing the Independence Day celebration has been increased to the provincial level. The construction of tourist attractions associated with preserving the culture of ethnic groups in the area has been carried out with attention, thereby initially forming a number of community tourism attractions such as: Mong ethnic community tourism in Ban Huoi Bac, Pha Mu commune; Nam Pat market, Ta Mung commune; Ta Gia night market, Ta Gia commune; Tham Phe community tourism in Muong Kim commune; Thai ethnic community tourism in Zone 9 (Khieng village), Than Uyen town. In addition, a number of lake tourism attractions have been formed such as Tham Phe fishing village associated with Tham Phe community tourism in Muong Kim commune, creating a tourist route and experience of the lake from Tham Phe to Pa Khom Bay, Pha Mu commune and vice versa. Every year, it attracts tens of thousands of tourists to visit and experience. In 2023 alone, the whole district welcomed 238,000 visitors to Than Uyen, of which 39,383 were overnight visitors (38,899 domestic visitors; 484 international visitors), contributing significantly to the district's budget revenue.
The preservation and promotion of the fine traditional cultural identities of ethnic groups associated with tourism in the district is gradually going into depth, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality. Contributing to promoting the image of the homeland and people of Than Uyen to the public and tourists from all over the world.
