In January 2025, Vietnam's rice exports to the Cambodian market reached over $2 million, an increase of 100%.
According to data from the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), in January 2025, the total import and export turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia reached US$838.8 million, a decrease of 1% compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, Vietnam's exports to Cambodia reached US$420.8 million, a decrease of 6.3% compared to the same period in 2024. Currently, Vietnam's exports to Cambodia account for approximately 1.3% of Vietnam's total exports to the world.

Conversely, Vietnam's imports from Cambodia reached US$418 million, a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Imports from Cambodia accounted for 1.4% of Vietnam's total imports in January 2025. Vietnam had a trade surplus with Cambodia of US$2.8 million.
Notably, among the export items recording double-digit growth in value, rice recorded the highest growth. Specifically, rice recorded a 100% increase compared to the same period last year; followed by coffee with an 81.71% increase; seafood with a 48.66% increase; iron and steel products with a 46.89% increase; clinker and cement with a 43.05% increase; electrical wires and cables with a 35.9% increase; textile, garment, leather, and footwear raw materials and accessories with a 27.79% increase;…
However, some items recorded double-digit declines in export growth. Specifically, glass and glass products decreased by 90.02%; furniture made from materials other than wood decreased by 53.67%; ceramic products decreased by 50.3%; plastic products decreased by 31.18%; petroleum products decreased by 25.96%; and animal feed and raw materials decreased by 24.19%.
Regarding rice exports, the Cambodian Rice Federation reported that in January 2025, Cambodia exported 59,086 tons of milled rice, earning $48.03 million.
According to the Cambodian Rice Federation, 39 rice exporters made these shipments to 45 markets, with 23 European countries importing a total of 36,714 tons, worth $29.79 million.
Meanwhile, China, including Hong Kong (China) and Macau (China), imported 3,772 tons, worth US$2.56 million. Four ASEAN countries imported 9,413 tons, worth US$7.31 million, while 16 other countries, including those in Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and others, imported 9,187 tons, worth US$8.37 million.
Of the exported rice, fragrant rice accounted for 93.01%, white rice 2.93%, parboiled rice 2.31%, organic rice 1.42%, and other types of rice 0.33%. Notably, the total amount of wet rice exported in January 2025 reached 619,489 tons, earning over US$139.39 million.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , rice exports in February 2025 are estimated at 560,000 tons with a value of US$288.2 million, bringing the total volume and value of rice exports in the first two months of 2025 to 1.1 million tons and US$613 million, an increase of 5.9% in volume but a decrease of 13.6% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The average export price of rice in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at US$553.6/ton, a decrease of 18.3% compared to the same period in 2024. Among the top 15 rice export markets, the value of rice exports increased most sharply in Turkey, with a 600.7-fold increase, while the sharpest decline was in Cambodia, with a 39.3% decrease compared to the same period last year. |
