The Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument is located on D1 Hill in the city center, which is also the center of the historical site. Standing approximately 50 meters above the Muong Thanh plain, it is a landmark visible from the entire city.

The Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument is a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world because from the top, you can get a panoramic view of the entire city.

The monument was inaugurated on April 30, 2004, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. Standing 12.6 meters tall, with a 3.6-meter-high pedestal and weighing 220 tons, the victory monument complex depicts three soldiers standing back-to-back, supporting a Thai ethnic child, with the "Determined to Fight, Determined to Win" flag at the top.

Hill A1, located in Muong Thanh ward, was the most important stronghold in the French colonialists' complex of fortifications, as seen from above.
