The fruits of faith and solidarity.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province is reaching its final days with almost complete results: Tens of thousands of sturdy houses have sprung up, replacing the rickety thatched roofs and rotting mud walls.

Joy in new homes

In late August, while the remnants of Typhoon No. 5 still brought heavy rain, the joy in the new house of Mr. Chang A Khanh's family, a Mong ethnic minority from Na Cooc village, Binh An commune, did not diminish. The dilapidated house, once stained and damaged by each rainy season, has now been replaced by a spacious, clean, and beautiful new house with a total area of over 100 square meters. The construction was made possible thanks to a 60 million VND grant from the government, along with the joint efforts and help of the villagers, who readily contributed their labor, days, and materials to complete the house. Mr. Khanh emotionally shared: “This new house is the dream of our whole family for many years. Before, every rainy season, the whole family lived in worry, fearing the house would collapse or leak. Now, we can rest assured and focus on our work and economic development.”

After years of fighting on the Central Highlands battlefield, 88-year-old veteran Hoang Xuan Nhi, from Nam Khuong village, Khuon Lung commune, returned to his hometown carrying the effects of chemical warfare, resulting in an 81% disability rating. Having lived for many years in a makeshift house, his frail old age made him yearn for a sturdy home to enjoy his retirement. Last June, thanks to the support of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police (formerly the Ha Giang Provincial Police), his four-room concrete stilt house, covering 85 square meters, was completed. The house has a corrugated iron roof, brick walls, and a solid wooden floor. Mr. Nhi choked up as he said, “I never thought I would be able to live in such a sturdy house at this age. I will have peaceful sleep in my new home, warm meals with my children and grandchildren, and I am deeply grateful to the Party and the State.”

The power of unity

Tuyen Quang province has been actively implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, following the "Nationwide Solidarity for the Poor - Leaving No One Behind" movement launched by the Prime Minister . As of August 25th, the province had started construction on 15,064 houses, of which 14,653 have been completed, achieving over 97% of the plan. Another 411 houses are under construction and are expected to be completed before August 31st.

Beyond just numbers, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has also fostered a spirit of compassion and community cohesion in each village. Mr. Nguyen Viet Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, stated: "The program's implementation has mobilized the combined strength of all levels, sectors, political and social organizations, businesses, people, and the community. Through the 'For the Poor' Fund, organizations, individuals, and businesses have donated tens of billions of dong, along with support in terms of labor and materials from the community, officials, civil servants, soldiers, and armed forces through 'three together' activities with the people, demonstrating the solidarity and mutual assistance spirit of the Vietnamese people."

The demolition of dilapidated and substandard housing is not simply about improving people's material conditions, but also a catalyst for changing their mindset and proactively striving for a better life. These new homes are not only symbols of infrastructure improvement, but also the fruits of trust and sound, timely policies that are close to and for the people. In particular, completing the demolition of dilapidated and substandard housing on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd has profound political and social significance. It is a vivid testament to the spirit of "walking alongside the people," and an affirmation of the Party, State, and all levels of government's determination to fulfill the commitment of "leaving no one behind."
