Mr. Nguyen Thanh, a tourist from Dong Thap province, shared through the press that he knew that Vinh Hung ancient tower is very famous, has existed for thousands of years, has many artifacts recognized as national treasures. However, when visiting, he and many other tourists were extremely disappointed because the large area surrounding the ancient tower was submerged in water, with green grass growing.
According to Mr. Le Anh Duy, the manager at Vinh Hung ancient tower, the relic is often flooded. In particular, when heavy rain lasts for about 2 hours, the water rises to the first step of the ancient tower's foot. The relic's security guards use a pump system to pump the water out.
Mr. Chau Ngoc Sinh, Deputy Director of Ca Mau Provincial Museum, said that in 2024, Vinh Hung archaeological site was ranked as a special national relic by the Prime Minister and the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province (old) held a ceremony to receive it on April 26, 2025. However, since being ranked, the relic has not changed much compared to before. Due to the low ground, when there is heavy rain and high tide, the ancient tower area is flooded, and weeds grow a lot. Stagnant water for a long time makes moss grow quickly.
According to Mr. Sinh, to temporarily fix the problem, the Vinh Hung archaeological relic management agency has invested in water pumps. When there is heavy rain and high tide, the water will be pumped out. In the long term, a consulting unit will be invited to survey and plan the overall situation, possibly expand the relic site, and invest in a roof to protect the Vinh Hung ancient tower.
According to Ca Mau Provincial Museum, Vinh Hung archaeological site is determined to date from the 7th - 8th century AD, belonging to the final development stage of Oc Eo culture. Vinh Hung ancient tower is the only remaining Oc Eo cultural architecture in the Southwest and has undergone three excavations and archaeological surveys in 2002, 2006 and 2011. The artifacts discovered through archaeological excavations are large in number, rich in genre and material, helping to identify and affirm the value of Vinh Hung archaeological site in the cultural heritage system of the nation.
Among the artifacts found at Vinh Hung archaeological site, five have been recognized as national treasures, including: the statue of goddess Laksmi, the statue of god Sadasiva, the head of god Shiva, the statue of Nam Than and the relief of goddess Uma.
