The Korean team lost to Japan.

For the first time in history, Japan has won three consecutive matches against South Korea. Previously, Japan won 3-0 in two previous matches against the Korean team in 2021 and 2022.

In the history of the confrontation, Korea still leads with 42 wins, 23 draws and 17 losses when facing Japan. However, since 2010, Korea has only had 4 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses.

Chosun newspaper expressed disappointment and considered this achievement a "shock" to the country's football. Despite playing at home and receiving support from the audience, coach Hong Myung-bo and his team still suffered defeat and showed the difference in class between the two teams.

South Korea were without stars like Son Heung-min, Kim Min-jae and Lee Kang-in, while Japan also did not have many stars playing in Europe in their squad. The home team, South Korea, had 9 shots in the whole match but only had one dangerous situation from Lee Ho-jae's volley.

Ryo Germain scored the only goal to give Japan the win.

After the match, coach Hong Myung-bo shared: "We don't think we have any shortcomings. The whole team played fairly and fought fiercely in defense. Overall, I believe my players played better."

This tournament has become a test for Korean football. However, losing to Japan three times in a row is a worrying thing, especially when the Korean team has conceded 7 goals without scoring any.

Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu has been in charge of the team since 2019 and has won all three of his last three meetings with South Korea. "Japan have three consecutive wins, but two of them were under the former South Korean coach," he said.
