On March 27th, news from Military Hospital 121 reported that pregnant woman PTAK (29 years old, from Tan Phuoc Hung commune, Can Tho city) and her baby boy weighing 2.35 kg were healthy and discharged from the hospital. Before birth, the fetus had a knotted umbilical cord, and doctors performed emergency surgery on the mother.
Tying a knot in the umbilical cord significantly increases the risk of fetal death.
A pregnant woman, over 37 weeks into her pregnancy, was found by doctors to have a knotted umbilical cord and underwent emergency surgery.

Previously, pregnant woman K. was admitted to Military Hospital 121 in a state of abdominal pain, labor, fetal heart failure… The fetus was only 37 weeks and 4 days old at that time, not yet ready for natural delivery.
Through paraclinical techniques, doctors discovered that the fetus had a knotted umbilical cord and ordered emergency surgery, saving the baby boy's life in time.
According to Dr. Khuu Van Hau, a specialist in Obstetrics and Pediatrics at Military Hospital 121, when the umbilical cord is knotted, blood and nutrients from the mother cannot reach the fetus. If this condition persists, it can lead to cerebral ischemia, exhaustion, and a very high risk of fetal death. Therefore, during pregnancy, expectant mothers need regular check-ups and color Doppler ultrasounds to detect abnormalities early.
