People of Doi Gianh village, Ban Lau commune come to the gathering place to receive support for tea seedlings.
As soon as he heard the news of receiving support for tea seedlings, Mr. Giang Seo Quang, Doi Gianh village, Ban Lau commune, Muong Khuong district, came to the gathering place early to receive them. This time, Mr. Quang's family was supported with 2,600 seedlings to convert part of the diseased banana growing area to tea planting. "The tea is growing well, and I have a stable monthly income, so I decided to grow it. Tea is a crop that requires a lot of work and manpower, so my family is also prepared to take better care of it," Mr. Giang Seo Quang shared.
Currently, the entire Ban Lau commune has over 670 hectares of tea; in 2024 alone, the locality will plant more than 100 hectares. This result has significant support from the "Development of agroforestry livelihood model" project. The commune government expects tea trees to bring high economic efficiency, helping hundreds of households have stable income. "The Mekong - Lan Thuong project is being implemented with the support of the Department of Agriculture. Through the implementation, people are very enthusiastic in supporting because the output of tea products is currently relatively stable and the price is relatively good", said Mr. Hoang Van Kien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ban Lau commune, Muong Khuong district.

The project "Developing agroforestry livelihood models" in Muong Khuong district with support from the Mekong - Lancang Special Fund has helped the locality add resources to plant 200 hectares of new Shan tea, concentrated in 6 communes and towns in the border area. The climate and soil are suitable, so the tea trees grow and develop well. "Hopefully, after about 3 to 5 years, the project will be successful, contributing to increasing income and I also hope that this will be a model of cooperation between the two countries as well as a model in the organization and implementation for us to replicate", said Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Muong Khuong district.
At the end of the 2024 production season, Muong Khuong's total output of fresh tea buds reached nearly 36,500 tons, bringing in a value of over 261 billion VND. High output and good selling prices have affirmed the effectiveness of the project when choosing tea as one of the strong and potential crops to support acreage expansion, linking production with processing and product consumption, and increasing farmers' income.
