The painting "The heroic spirit of April 30" was drawn by teacher Nguyen Tri Hanh (born in 1983), an art teacher at Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School (Nghe An) using colored chalk.
The painting is drawn on a blue board, vividly recreating the sacred historical moment of the nation - April 30, 1975, the day of complete liberation of the South and national reunification.

The image of a tank fiercely crashing through the iron gate of the Independence Palace – a symbol of the fall of the Saigon government. In this special painting, there are also liberation soldiers in green uniforms, holding guns, bravely entering the palace with determined expressions, showing spirit, momentum and belief in certain victory.

On the roof of the Independence Palace, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was proudly raised high by a soldier, fluttering in the wind. "The flag is half red and half blue/ The red of the earth, the blue of the sky" (poem by To Huu) symbolizes pride, peace and independence regained after many years of arduous fighting.
Below the painting is a prominent line of text: "North - South, one family April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025". The line is both a reminder and an affirmation of the country's unification - an unforgettable milestone in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

Teacher Nguyen Tri Hanh shared: “People across the country are joyfully welcoming the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, I want to join in the atmosphere of celebrating the great victory in my own way. After days of nurturing, I decided to recreate the historic moment of April 30, 1975 at the gate of the Independence Palace to spread and inspire students and people of all walks of life. Through that, I express my gratitude to the heroes - the soldiers who sacrificed their youth so that the country could blossom with independence and bear the fruit of freedom.”

The historic moment at noon on April 30, 1975 was recorded through the famous photo “Liberation Army tanks capturing the Independence Palace on April 30, 1975” by journalist Tran Mai Huong. Therefore, when drawing the picture “The heroic spirit of April 30”, teacher Nguyen Tri Hanh was aware that he had to create a unique feature. Using colored chalk on a blue board, the Fine Arts teacher carefully created and focused his mind to give the picture a lively, attractive look while still ensuring the heroic historical character.
