HAI PHONG Video of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, vice principal of An Hai High School, singing and dancing with 12th grade students attracted 45,000 likes.

On the afternoon of June 23, the stage of the gratitude and maturity program for 12th grade students of An Hai High School, An Duong District, exploded with the opening performance of Vice Principal Nguyen Thanh Tung and 18 members of class 12A3, which he is in charge of. Teacher Tung appeared in shorts, a denim shirt and sneakers, singing, rapping and dancing. Hundreds of students below the stage cheered with excitement.

"I'm very proud of your performance. We've heard you sing many times, but this is the first time you rap," said Tran Thu Trang, class 12A3.

Trang said that in the gratitude ceremony that day, each grade 12 class would have 1-2 performances. Instead of the usual gentle dances about school and class, Trang and her friends wanted to create a lively performance as a souvenir.

"Teacher Tung chose the song "Wishing One Day You'll Remember Me" as a hot trend on Tiktok. He and I choreographed the moves together and agreed with everyone to practice," Trang said.

The dance was practiced for a week, taking 1-1.5 hours in the evening to avoid affecting the students' exam preparation. Trang said that class 12A3, specializing in Social Sciences , had 48 students but only 14 were boys. Many students had never been on stage or performed in front of a crowd, so when mobilized, they were shy and awkward. "The homeroom teacher had to encourage and motivate them a lot," Trang said.

Nguyen Ba Khoa never thought he would stand in front of everyone to dance. "I was very shy. When the teacher called me to join the team, I wasn't excited because I didn't know how to practice," Khoa shared. In the beginning, Khoa couldn't remember the moves, and his movements were still stiff. After a week of practicing with everyone and visualizing them in his head at home, Khoa was able to memorize the choreography.

The day he went on stage, Khoa was nervous, but when the music started, and he saw his teacher and classmates dancing enthusiastically, he also joined in the song. "The enthusiastic cheering atmosphere, everyone below shouting, calling each student's name and class A3 made me get caught up without missing a beat," Khoa said.

The video recording the performance of the teacher and students has attracted more than 45,000 likes and more than 600 shares after being posted on the school's fanpage on June 24.

"I didn't think the video would be so well received and have such a positive effect. The students are also very happy that everyone likes it," Mr. Tung shared.

Mr. Tung had a long time working in the Youth Union before becoming Vice Principal, so he was always passionate about stirring up the movement at school. The original purpose of the performance was just to give students good memories of their school days, and at the same time help them feel comfortable before the high school graduation exam.

According to Mr. Tung, the ceremony was organized like an outdoor buffet party, with 450 people including students, teachers and parents. The vice principal was proud to receive comments from parents praising the school for having close and friendly Gen Z teachers.

"I feel like I'm on the right track when I contribute to building a youthful, dynamic school where students have the right to express themselves. Even though it's just a spontaneous performance, it shows the students' spirit," said Mr. Tung.

Mr. Tung believes that young people today can make Tiktok videos and write good content but lack the skills to express themselves in front of a crowd. Therefore, through the dance, Mr. Tung wants to guide students to be confident and dare to express themselves. Instead of living a virtual life, students should show their true value to everyone.

Khoa feels proud of having overcome himself. "Thanks to Mr. Tung, I overcame my self-consciousness to break through," Khoa said.

Trang is grateful to Mr. Tung for inspiring the students positively, helping the whole class have more memories. "Everyone watched the dance over and over again and had a comfortable mood to enter the exam tomorrow," Trang shared.
