Quang Nam Teacher Nguyen Tran Vy called on donors to donate 50 million VND to give lucky money to nearly 10,000 students in the mountainous district of Nam Tra My.
During the flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon on the morning of February 19, teachers from 28 schools in Nam Tra My district, from kindergarten to junior high school, gave lucky money to students.
This is the amount of money raised by Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy, Vice Principal of Vu A Dinh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Tra Don Commune.

Mr. Vy said this is the fourth year he has called for lucky money for students at the beginning of the new year. However, in previous years, he only organized it at a few schools, but this year it is for all students in the district.
"The 50 million VND was donated by benefactors and divided among more than 9,930 students, each of whom received 5,000 VND in lucky money," said Mr. Vy, adding that after exchanging small change and buying lucky money envelopes, he asked the teachers to distribute them to the students.
According to Mr. Vy, many children of cadres and teachers who come to work receive lucky money and bring it to school to show off to their friends. Meanwhile, in the mountainous areas, there is almost no custom of giving lucky money on Tet holiday. Therefore, he asked for support from benefactors, with the hope of creating joy for the children when they go to school at the beginning of the new year.
"The amount of money is not large, but the children receiving the gifts will have more motivation to study in the new year, ensuring class size," Mr. Vy shared.

Mr. Nguyen Chinh, Head of the Kim Dong Primary School Youth Union, Nam Tra My District, highly appreciated Mr. Vy's work.
"Lucky money envelopes represent a spiritual gift, not material things but instead express care, love and wishes for children to be good, study well and be healthy," said Mr. Chinh.
Nam Tra My is a poor mountainous district of Quang Nam province. More than 97% of the population here are ethnic minorities, mostly Ca Dong and Xe Dang.
