Another university in Ho Chi Minh City offers training in dentistry

(NLDO) - Tuition for dentistry at this school is expected to be around 150 million VND/year.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just decided to allow Gia Dinh University (HCMC) to train in dentistry.

According to this decision, Gia Dinh University will determine targets, enroll students, organize and manage training, and grant degrees according to current regulations; evaluate the quality and accredit training programs.

MSc. Trinh Huu Chung, Vice Principal of Gia Dinh University, said that this year, the school will enroll about 50 students in the dentistry major.

The methods used for admission to the dental - maxillofacial major include: Considering academic records; considering the 2025 high school graduation exam scores according to the subject group; considering the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University in 2025.

Regarding the admission combination based on the method of using high school transcripts and high school graduation exams, the school uses the combinations A00 (math, physics, chemistry), A01 (math, physics, English), B00 (math, chemistry, biology), B01 (math, biology, history), B03 (math, biology, literature), D07 (math, chemistry, English), D08 (math, biology, English).

The entrance threshold for the dental - maxillofacial industry is for candidates with good or higher grades in grade 12 or high school graduation exam scores >= 8.0.

Regarding admission conditions, with the method of considering transcripts, the school uses 2 options: Consider the entire 12th grade year or consider the results of grades 11 and 12 according to a combination of 3 subjects. Specifically:

- Considering the whole year of grade 12: (Average score of grade 12 subject 1 + Average score of grade 12 subject 2 + Average score of grade 12 subject 3) >=22.5 points.

- Consider grades 11 and 12: [(Average score of grade 11 subject 1 + Average score of grade 11 subject 2 + Average score of grade 11 subject 3) + (Average score of grade 12 subject 1 + Average score of grade 12 subject 2 + Average score of grade 12 subject 3)] /2 >= 22.5 points.

With the graduation exam score review method, the floor score will be announced by the Ministry of Education and Training after the 2025 high school graduation exam results are available.

Master Trinh Huu Chung also said that the expected tuition fee for the dental - maxillofacial major is about 150 million VND/year.

Previously, in an official dispatch sent to the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health said that the country currently has 34 university education institutions training doctors, of which 18 have training facilities in the field of dentistry. The number of medical graduates in 2024 is 11,424, of which 999 are dentists. To achieve 19 doctors/10,000 people by 2030, it is necessary to add 173,389 doctors, including dentists.
