Atletico Madrid have identified Andy Robertson as their top transfer target, opening up the possibility that the Liverpool left-back will reunite with former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold - this time not on the same side but as direct rivals in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid are confident they can sign Robertson.

According to The Athletic , Atletico Madrid have identified Robertson as their top target in the summer transfer window of 2025. The move comes after Liverpool lost right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. If Robertson moves to Atletico, Liverpool will face their second major loss in the same transfer window.

Liverpool are planning to bolster their defence as they pursue Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, while also completing the signing of Jeremie Frimpong. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool do not want to lose Robertson easily, but Atletico are confident they can complete the deal.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City for £8m in 2017 under Jurgen Klopp. He has since made 342 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 11 goals and providing 67 assists. His achievements include two Premier League titles, a Champions League, a FIFA Club World Cup, an FA Cup and two League Cups.

To replace Robertson, Liverpool could have to spend around £45m on Kerkez. Add in the £29.5m spent on Frimpong and the record £116.5m spent on Florian Wirtz, and Liverpool's total summer transfer spending could be close to £200m.

If he joins Atletico Madrid, Robertson will have the opportunity to face Alexander-Arnold directly in Madrid derbies.
