- Health insurance (HI) is considered a solid pillar of the social security system. In recent years, the implementation of health insurance for students in Lang Son province has gone into depth, bringing about clear results. This policy not only helps to expand the coverage of subjects but also ensures the right to medical examination and treatment, which is an important support for comprehensive health care for students.

From July 1, 2025, according to Decree No. 188/2025/ND-CP, the level of health insurance support from the State budget for students will increase from 30% to at least 50%. Specifically, the current health insurance contribution level (4.5% of the basic salary of VND 2,340,000 /month) is 105,300 VND/month. With the new 50% support level , students only have to pay: 52,650 VND/month (about 631,800 VND/year), a reduction of about 253,000 VND/year compared to the old payment level (nearly 885,000 VND/year).
This practical support not only significantly reduces the financial burden on families, especially low-income, poor and near-poor households, but also brings peace of mind to parents and students entering the new school year.
For Mr. Hoang Van Khoi and his wife (Tam An village, Van Quan commune), who do small business, the biggest worry at the beginning of each school year is not only tuition, money to buy books and school supplies, but also health insurance for their children.
Mr. Khoi shared: My family currently has a child in 6th grade. Knowing that this year the Party and State increased the health insurance support for students from 30% to 50%, it has really helped my family's economic burden. Or Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Dai Thang block, Luong Van Tri ward) said: The amount of money used to pay for the education of 3 children in primary and secondary school is a large sum for my family. Now that the children are all supported with half of the health insurance premium, my husband and I feel more relieved.
This humane policy also helps each student receive comprehensive health care, be ready to conquer knowledge, nurture dreams, build the future and contribute to the development of the country.
Nong Lam Ban, a student of the Faculty of Preschool Education , Lang Son College, said: Although tuition fees are exempted, students like us still have to worry about many other expenses such as: accommodation, daily living, studying, etc. The 50% reduction in health insurance fees has helped many students reduce pressure and save some money for their families. More importantly, this policy has shown the care of the Party and the State, helping us students feel that we are always accompanied.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Lang Son Provincial Social Insurance has closely coordinated with the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health to effectively implement student health insurance, thereby, the rate of health insurance participation at schools reached 99.7%, in which many schools have a large number of students but have maintained a rate of 100% of students participating in health insurance for many years.
The provincial Social Insurance has coordinated with the education sector to guide and send documents to all educational institutions in the province to notify about the new preferential support level of the State for health insurance for students. This year, the health insurance contribution level has been reduced by 20% compared to the 2024-2025 school year. This support incentive is a practical solution, not only helping to reduce the financial burden for many families but also creating many positive, long-term impacts, creating a strong driving force to promote the goal of 100% health insurance coverage in schools.

Immediately after the opening ceremony of the 2025 - 2026 school year, schools in the province effectively organized teaching and learning activities, and at the same time disseminated regulations and preferential policies during the school year to teachers, parents and students to review, compile statistics and grasp each specific case. Ms. Ha Thi Hiep, Vice Principal of Dong Dang High School (Dong Dang commune) said: Reducing 50% of health insurance fees for students will contribute to sharing the costs at the beginning of the school year for parents, creating motivation for students to go to school regularly, contributing to improving the quality of education in the area. In the 2025 - 2026 school year, the rate of health insurance participation of school students will reach 100%, making it easier for the school to take care of and monitor the health of students.
For students, health insurance is not only a health protection card, a solid support in case of illness or disease, helping families reduce the burden of medical expenses, but also helps students form awareness of self-protection and disease prevention. Through regular health check-up programs and medical consultations, students are equipped with knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle, deeply aware that "prevention is better than cure".
More importantly, participating in health insurance is also a practical lesson in social responsibility because the health insurance system operates on the principle of risk sharing among participants. Through this, students will deeply understand compassion and community awareness: healthy people join hands to help those who are unlucky and sick.
When a large number of young, healthy people participate, the health insurance fund will be more sustainable, operating in accordance with the core risk-sharing principle. Moreover, this policy also ensures fairness in access to health services, helping all students, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to receive timely health care. This is a strategic investment for the future, because a young generation that is healthy in both body and mind will be a solid foundation for the country's sustainable development.
The policy of supporting 50% of health insurance premiums for students in the 2025-2026 school year is a practical and humane incentive. Hopefully, this school year, more students in the province will be protected by health insurance cards, helping them receive comprehensive health care and be more confident on their learning path.
