Peppermint contains rosmarinic acid, an anti-inflammatory polyphenol compound. Drinking peppermint tea rich in rosmarinic acid can significantly improve mobility and reduce pain in people with knee osteoarthritis.

Although regular peppermint tea also helps reduce joint stiffness and increase mobility, only tea rich in rosmarinic acid has been shown to be significantly effective in reducing pain.

According to studies, peppermint can also reduce inflammation caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Decreased testosterone levels

In addition to its anti-inflammatory effects, peppermint can also affect hormone levels in the body, especially testosterone. It has anti-androgenic properties, meaning it can inhibit the effects of male hormones like testosterone.

This is especially relevant for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition characterized by high androgen levels, ovarian dysfunction, and insulin problems.

According to one study, women who drank peppermint tea twice daily for 1 month had significantly lower free testosterone and total testosterone than a group that did not drink the tea.

They also noted an increase in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which improved reproductive function.

Reduce nausea

In traditional medicine, peppermint has long been used to treat stomach problems such as colic and nausea.

Due to its antispasmodic and anti-nausea properties, peppermint is effective in soothing nausea.

Notes when using mint tea

Although mint has many health benefits, not everyone can use this herb.

Peppermint may trigger gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) symptoms in some people, due to its ability to relax the lower esophageal sphincter, allowing stomach acid to easily reflux into the esophagus.

For people with kidney and liver diseases, excessive use of mint is not recommended, as there is a risk of harm.

Pregnant and nursing women should also be cautious when using peppermint products.
