(QNgTV) - Starting from the fourth quarter of 2025, Hanoi will pilot a ban on the use of disposable plastic products at restaurants, eateries, and cafes in the beltway area 1.
In Directive 20 on a number of urgent and drastic tasks to prevent and resolve environmental pollution, the Prime Minister requested Hanoi to pilot the ban on single-use plastic items in restaurants, hotels, beverage shops, eateries, etc. located within Ring Road 1. The pilot will be implemented from the fourth quarter of this year and expanded in the following years. This is the latest regulation related to solutions to prevent plastic pollution in Hanoi. The city has shown its determination to reduce the waste of this material in the face of the situation of more than 1,400 tons of plastic waste discharged every day.
Nationwide, according to Decree 08/2022, single-use plastic products and non-biodegradable plastic packaging (including non-biodegradable plastic bags, foam boxes for packaging and food containers) will not be circulated or used in shopping malls, supermarkets, hotels, and tourist areas after 2025. From January 1, 2026, Vietnam will reduce the production and import of small-sized non-biodegradable plastic bags. After 2030, the Government aims to completely stop the production and import of single-use plastic products, non-biodegradable plastic bags, and foam boxes for food containers.
