According to a report from Statcounter , Windows 11 recorded a decline in market share in November 2024, and the latest data shows that this situation continues. Specifically, in two consecutive months, Windows 11 lost more than 1.48% of market share, falling from 34.94% to 34.1% in December 2024, corresponding to a decrease of 0.84%.
Windows 11 continues to lose market share for 2 consecutive months
Windows 10, on the other hand, has regained some users even though it will no longer be officially supported in less than 11 months. Currently, Windows 10 is still the dominant version of Microsoft's operating system market with a market share of 62.73%, up 0.9%.
Why Windows 11 can't speed up
Attention is now focused on the future of Windows 10 as October 2025 approaches. Many users are unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to its high hardware requirements, including TPM 2.0, and Microsoft has no intention of adjusting these requirements.
For those who can't get the official update and don't want to buy a new device, Microsoft offers an extended security program for $30 that gives users an extra 12 months of updates. Users can also look to third-party solutions like 0patch to get up to five years of additional support, though they're not free. Additionally, some people have also chosen to bypass Windows 11's hardware requirements through various tricks.
Here's the current Windows market share situation, according to data from Statcounter: Windows 10 with 62.73% (+0.9%), Windows 11 with 34.1% (-0.84%), Windows 7 with 2.4% (-0.07%), Windows 8.1 with 0.29% (-0.02%), Windows XP with 0.23% (-0.02%).
This situation shows the fierce competition between Microsoft operating system versions as well as the careful thinking of users before making the decision to upgrade to a newer version.
