Navalny's body returned to his family

"Alexei's body has been handed over to his mother. Thank you to all those who joined us in demanding the return of his body," Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, posted on social network X on February 24.

Yarmysh added that she did not know whether the authorities would allow the funeral to be held "the way the family wanted and the way Alexei deserved".

Navalny, a former lawyer, served as leader of the opposition Russian People's Union party from 2019 to 2021 and repeatedly led anti -government protests. He was arrested in January 2021 in Moscow, sentenced to a total of about 30 years in prison on charges of participating in extremism and other crimes, and transferred to IK-3 at the end of 2023.
