Navalny's body returned to his family

"Alexei's remains have been handed over to his mother. Thank you to everyone who joined us in demanding the return of his body," Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, posted on social network X on February 24.

Yarmysh added that she did not know whether the authorities would allow the funeral to be held "the way the family wanted and the way Alexei deserved".

Navalny, a former lawyer, led the opposition Russian People's Union party from 2019 to 2021 and led several anti-government protests. He was arrested in Moscow in January 2021, sentenced to a total of about 30 years in prison on charges of participating in extremism and other crimes, and transferred to IK-3 in late 2023.
