On June 26-27, nearly 1.17 million candidates nationwide will take the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Note the new question format
Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Hue said that this year is the first year that 12th grade students take the exam according to the new general education program, the structure and format of the exam have changed differently compared to previous years.
For Mathematics, the exam is divided into three distinct parts. Part one consists of 12 multiple-choice questions. This is a familiar multiple-choice question format, requiring candidates to choose one correct answer.

The second part consists of 4 multiple choice questions, each worth 1 point. This is a challenging and even harsh part for students because each question has 4 points. If a student answers 1 point correctly, they will only get 0.1 point, if they answer 2 points correctly, they will get 0.25 points, if they answer 3 points correctly, they will get 0.5 points, and if they answer all 4 points, they will get 1 point.
"The problem with this type of question is that if a student answers one question incorrectly, they will lose 0.5 points. With 4 multiple choice questions in true-false format, if a student is not careful and unsure of basic knowledge, they risk losing 2 points. This is also a question that can classify average and good students," said Ms. Hue.
Finally, the third part consists of 6 short answer questions, requiring candidates to figure out the answer themselves.

According to Ms. Hue, there is only one week left until the exam, so students need to have a smart review plan. They need to have a schedule to divide their time reasonably to review the 4 subjects.
Every day, you should go to bed early and wake up early to stay alert and focus on practicing. For Math, students take the test and seriously time themselves for 90 minutes to do the test.
During the process, absolutely do not use documents to evaluate your ability. After finishing, check your answers and learn from your mistakes to correct them, ensuring that if you encounter a similar question, you can answer it correctly.
Avoid basic mistakes
During the teaching process, through the school's tests and mock tests of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the teacher realized that students often make mistakes such as: wrong measurement units, forgetting the conditions of the lesson, misreading the questions, filling in the wrong answers... leading to unfortunate loss of points.
When entering the exam room, candidates need to read through the questions to get a grasp of the spirit, then do the questions from easy to difficult. If you encounter difficult or unfamiliar questions, do not lose your composure, do not get bogged down, and avoid spending too much time on these questions.
“90 minutes in the exam room are precious and pass very quickly. Candidates need to take advantage of doing all the easy questions, the questions within their ability, and review to make sure they get a certain score before moving on to the difficult questions,” said Ms. Hue.
For the true-false test format, this is a new type of question that requires students to be extremely careful. There are students who study well and do the test well and can definitely get the maximum score. There are also cases where students study well but are careless and subjective and can lose 2 points.
One challenge in the new program's exam is that there are many practical problems and interdisciplinary integrated problems. Candidates need to read the questions carefully and focus on doing the test.
Strong mind
This year, the results of the high school graduation exam play an important role in university admissions. With the innovations in this year's exam, Ms. Hue believes that it is not easy for candidates to achieve a score of 9-10 and there is no longer a situation where candidates can still get points even if they are average like before. Students are determined that they must have real ability to achieve high scores to be admitted to top schools.
According to the female teacher, since the Ministry of Education and Training announced the sample questions, schools have trained students in new skills and methods for taking the exam. Practical math questions have also been practiced a lot in the past half school year, however, to differentiate students, the exam will have difficult questions.
The most important thing is that candidates need to keep a calm and steady mind as if taking a test in class. From now until the exam, candidates should not focus on studying, but need to rest, stay healthy, and be mentally comfortable to take the exam.
