This little device can find the "culprit" who is secretly picking our wallets

If we cannot replace grid electricity with other forms of renewable energy (solar power, wind power...) because these options are not cheap to invest in, the simplest way to save money is to change our energy consumption habits.

So how do we do this? Of course, unplugging unnecessary devices and reducing the use of energy-consuming appliances can be the solution.

But identifying high-energy-draining devices isn't easy unless you have a tool called "Kill A Watt" like CNET writer Eric Mack.

Named a play on “Kilowatt,” the “Kill A Watt” is a device that displays how much energy a particular appliance is consuming. It’s a great way to identify inefficient items, like a refrigerator that needs replacing.

Using it is quite simple. You just need to insert it into the socket and then plug in the plug of any device you want to test onto it.

The LED display will tell you how much energy the device is consuming through power (W), voltage (V) and current frequency (Hz) indicators.

"Kil A Watt" can also help you calculate your device's energy usage and extrapolate how much electricity your device consumes on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis.

Writer Eric Mack also shared that "Kill A Watt" helped him identify the most efficient lamps and light bulbs, the amount of energy saved when using a robot vacuum cleaner compared to using a traditional vacuum cleaner...

But the biggest discovery was that the sleep mode on the TV was completely useless because the amount of electricity consumed was almost the same as when it was on. And now he and his family have formed the habit of unplugging the TV when not in use.

The device also helps him find some low voltage spots in the line.

Eric Mack reportedly ordered "Kill A Watt" from Amazon for under $40.
